Rock Wall

Welcome to the University of Colorado Rock Wall. Our climbing facility consists of two areas, the 25-foot high climbing gym, and the bouldering wall. These are located adjacent to each other on the upper level of the student Recreation Center.
The cost is $35 per year for a rock wall / boulder wall membership. The bouldering wall is open at all regular Recreation Center hours. It is not directly supervised so you need to have a Bouldering Pass and place it on display to use it. You must take either the Climbing Gym Intro class or the Drop-In Skills Check to acquire a Bouldering pass. (See Sidebar).
Mandatory Prerequisites to use the Climbing Gym and Bouldering wall:
A. Climbing Gym Intro Class (2.5 hours), $35
Teaches the beginning climber what they need to know to safely climb indoors, including: safety, commands, knots, belaying, spotting, and movement. You will need to demonstrate competence in these skills to successfully complete this class.
OR
B. Drop-In Climbing Gym Skills Check (approx. 30 min), $35
This class is for climbers who feel competent in their belaying, knots, spotting, commands, and safety. No scheduled time is necessary. You can simply visit the wall during open hours and a wall monitor can run you through the class. Note that the wall monitor reserves the right to decline a drop-in class. This depends on how many people are currently using the facility. It is recommended that you sign up for one of the above scheduled classes. You will need to demonstrate competence in these skills to successfully complete this class.
You must complete one of the above classes to use the gym.
Equipment
You can use our harness, locking biner, and belay device for free. Climbing shoes are available for $2.00 a day.
Annual Safety Checks
Due to the challenge of creating a safe climbing environment, you are required to demonstrate an adequate skill level ANNUALLY in order to have access to the climbing gym. Climbing Gym Annual Skills Check is $35.
Please note that this skills check is good for twelve months following the date of completion.
Eligibility to Access the Climbing Gym
You must be a current member of the Recreation Center and be a minimum of seventeen years of age. Sorry, but guests are not eligible to climb.

Group climbing instruction and recreation is available. If your group is interested in reserving the wall please call or stop by the Outdoor Program Office to reserve a time.
