Canoe the Colorado: Ruby and Horsethief Canyon (5-day Spring Break Trip) - a Top 5 Adventure!

Hop in a canoe and take a float with the Outdoor Program. This is a 26-mile excursion through spectacular canyon country between Loma, CO and Westwater, Utah. This section of the Colorado River is remote and filled with box canyons providing the solitude you dream about for a wilderness canoe trip. No experience necessary. Instruction, transportation, equipment and food are provided.

Introduction to Backpacking

This class is designed for the novice and intermediate Backpacker. If you are interested in getting out into the wilderness of Colorado this class is for you. You will learn how to pack a pack, set up camp, read a map, shelter building (Tarp & Tent), cook, plan a menu and other necessary skills to travel the backcountry in comfort and safely. The first class meets the Thursday before your field day at the Outdoor Program Office at 6:00 pm. The second session will be in the field (Saturday & Sunday).

Backpack San Rafael Swell, Utah (5-day Fall Break Trip) - a Top 5 Adventure!

Join us for an incredible backpack journey through the canyon country of the San Rafael Swell in Utah. You will be back in Boulder in time to enjoy other activites during Thanksgiving break. You need light hiking boots and appropriate clothing. Instruction, transportation, food (excluding meals on the road), and backpack gear is provided. Rock Climb Limestone Cliffs, CO (4-day Fall Break Trip)

Join us for rock climbing trip in southern Colorado to a popular sport climbing destination. You will be back in Boulder in time to enjoy additional activities during Thanksgiving break. Peak/Hike of the Week

Summit one of the Boulder County peaks, and explore the trails in our amazing Open Space and Mountain Parks. Each week you can attempt a climb on one of the Boulder Skyline’s Peaks. Peak climbs are for healthy hikers of all abilities. Hikes will familiarize you with popular Boulder destinations and perhaps ones you’ve never been to! Hikes are for all abilities. A pre-trip info session will let you know what to bring and what to expect for each trip.

Sail St. Martin to Tortola, BVI

This trip starts at 8pm on the night of May 7th.  Fly into St Martin, Netherland Antilles.  The trip ends at noon on May 15th in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.  This is where you will fly out of.  DO NOT BOOK A FLIGHT UNTIL THIS TRIP IS CONFIRMED BY THE OUTDOOR PROGRAM!  A minimum of 6 people are required for this trip to actually happen. Includes, boat, crew, most meals and diving gear. Not included: Air fare, off boat meals, tanks and weights and air fill for divers. Duties and island taxes not included. A small fee will be collected for water, moorings and dockage if necessary. Personal expenses for snacks and beverages not included. Registration deadline: April 1, 2011.

CUOP Instructor Course

If you love the outdoors and have wanted to learn skills to be an instructor, this Instructor Course may be your opportunity to explore the world of wilderness education. The CU Outdoor Program (CUOP) instructors are student-staff educators that teach basic wilderness adventure, back packing and leadership on short wilderness courses.

When you successfully complete the CUOP Instructor Course you will be considered for an Instructor position with the Outdoor Program.

Launch your wilderness education career with:

  • CUOP Instructor Course - A series of classes and workshop presentations culminating in a two day wilderness experience for aspiring wilderness instructors. You'll get the tools to teach the next generation of CUOP students: in-depth instruction on teaching wilderness curriculum and training about standard institutional wilderness program protocols.
  • The class fee includes all gear and field day food. You will need to provide transportation and entrance fee (approximately $10).
