Beginning Tennis
This player is new to tennis. Students have limited playing experience and are still working primarily on getting the ball over the net within the court boundaries. They have limited knowledge of stroke mechanics and rules for singles and doubles play.
Advanced Beginning Tennis
This player may have had lessons, but needs experience. Students can keep the ball in play and are beginning to understand the rules for singles and doubles play.
Intermediate Tennis
This player has more dependable strokes, is learning to judge where the ball is going, and can direct shots with moderate success. They can sustain a slow pace rally, but are not comfortable with all strokes. They have weak court coverage and lack control when trying to use more power. This player is also developing a net game and is starting to serve with some power and control. Students also may be trying some degree of spin with their shots.
Advanced Tennis
This player has dependable strokes on both forehand and backhand, has begun to master the use of power and spins, can place first and second serves, and is able to use a variety of shots; including lobs, overheads, approach shots, and volleys. Frequently, this player has an outstanding shot and consistency around which a game can be structured.
