FALL 2009 CERTIFIED CLASSES
The Instruction Program is a Certified Provider of the American Red Cross. All certification classes offered by the Student Recreation Center meet the standards for current American Red Cross Emergency Cardiovascular Care Guidelines.
In addition to the following classes, ask us about scheduling a First Aid/CPR session for your Student Group, Organization, or University Department. Call 303-492-1091 for more information.

Lifeguard Training
This 32-hour course includes all the necessary Lifeguard Training material from the American Red Cross. It also includes certification in CPR for the professional rescuer, and First Aid. Upon completion and passing, you will receive:
- Three-year American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate
- One-year certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Three-year certification in Basic First Aid
Prerequisites include:
- Ability to swim 300 yards continuously, using the following strokes for 100 yards each: Freestyle / Breaststroke / Freestyle & Breast stroke combined.
- Surface dive to a minimum depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound weight.
- Swim 20 yards with a 10 lb. object using legs only.
Prerequisite swim test is administered at the first class. You must attend all classes to receive certification.
Lifeguard Training Review
If you have a current Lifeguard Training Certificate that's about to expire, this is the class for you. It includes certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training, and Basic First Aid. All candidates must still pass the prerequisite skills check as with basic Lifeguard Training (prerequisite swim test is administered at the first class session).
Community First Aid and CPR / AED
This nine-hour Standard First Aid Course covers everything from burns and broken bones to choking and heart attacks. This is an extended course that includes adult, infant, and junior CPR. The fee includes your personal protection mask and all textbooks. Upon completion and passing, you will receive:
- Three-year American Red Cross certification in First Aid.
- One-year certification for Community CPR (basic cpr) including AED
You must attend all classes to receive certification.
