What is the Recreation Board
The Recreation Services Recreation Board is a joint board of students, faculty, and staff, consisting of nine members (seven student, two nonstudent), operating under the authority of the University of Colorado Student Union (UCSU). Three student positions are filled by UCSU through its appointments committee, three positions are filled by the Recreation Board, and the final student position is filled by a UCSU Legislative Council member. The two nonstudent positions are filled by the Recreation Board and are not subject to UCSU ratification. There is no limit on the number of nonvoting members that can sit on the Recreation Board.

Recreation Board Function
The role of the Recreation Board above all, is to act as a policy setting body that works toward promoting the improvement of the Recreation Center and the University community through planning and positive action. Specifically, this includes:
  • providing programs and facilities that fulfill the needs of recreation center members.
  • giving direction to staff on matters regarding development, utilization, and management of Student Recreation Center facilities, services, and programs.
  • reviewing, making recommendations, and approving the annual budget and any special financial requests.
  • serving as a venue for recreation center members to express ideas and concerns involving the Student Recreation Center facility and its operations.

Job Description
The duty of the UCSU Recreation Board is to set policy and allocate funds for the Student Recreation Center within priorities established by the UCSU Executive Council. All recommendations for the acquisitions, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities under the control of the Department of Recreation Services are to be reviewed. The board has the responsibility for review and/or approval of immediate and long-range plans to meet the needs of the university community. The board shall review, finalize, and allocate the annual budget for the Student Recreation Center. Members are required to attend weekly meetings of the board and become familiar with the Student Recreation Center's operations and staff.
