If you prefer playing a pick-up game of basketball, or taking a dip in the pool at your leisure, then informal recreation is for you. Informal recreation enables you to use a facility in an unstructured setting for your own enjoyment. All facilities in the Student Recreation Center are available to members for informal use at some point during the day. In fact, most areas may be used for informal recreation most of the time. A lock and towel may also be checked out on a daily basis at no cost, or rented on a semester basis. Below is a brief preview of the facilities and their general availability for informal recreation.

Competition Pool
This pool is visible through the windows in the west lobby of the Recreation Center. It is open only to informal swimming (lap swimming) during the pool hours. There are occasions when the pool is closed for special events. These dates and times are posted well in advance of the event. The Clare Pool may, at times, be used as an alternate facility for lap swimming. There are non-lap swim or family swim hours scheduled each day.

Dive Well
For those of you who like to relax or exercise by jumping into a big body of water, the dive well is open almost all day long and some evening hours.

General Gymnasium (upper level, off of west lobby)
This facility is divided into four areas available for several informal activities: badminton, table tennis, drop-in volleyball, and open space. The west end is open for table tennis and badminton games. Table tennis tables and a badminton net are always set up during open recreation times. This area is open for informal recreation except when there are special events scheduled. Ping pong and badminton equipment is available at Equipment Checkout. The middle courts are set up for drop-in volleyball. These courts are open during the day for the most part but are often scheduled for programs in the evenings. The east end is an open space with mirrors along one wall. Two heavy bags are also located on this end. Use this space to stretch and practice martial arts or an activity of your choice. This space has programs scheduled periodically throughout the afternoon and evening.

Basketball Courts (lower level, off of east lobby)
This facility has three courts that are predominantly available for drop-in basketball. During the day, all week long, all three courts are set up for drop-in. Evening hours are limited Monday through Thursday due to programs. Basketballs are available through Equipment Checkout.

Mat Room
This is a completely padded facility. Use it for your stretching and exercise activities. This space has programs scheduled periodically throughout the day and predominantly in the evening during the week.

Racquetball, Handball, Squash, Walleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton, and Tennis Courts
Get yourself a partner and enjoy a game. You can either come in and see if a court is available or call 303-492-6561 and schedule a court one day in advance. Equipment is available at the Equipment Checkout window.

Aerobic Studio
This facility has a hardwood aerobic floor, mirrors on one wall, and a ballet bar. The facility is predominantly scheduled for aerobic and dance classes during the week.
All other access is limited to scheduled university activities and programs.

Ice Arena
Enjoy a relaxing day on the ice during the arena's open recreation hours.

Running Track
This 1/10 mile track is always open during the building hours.

Cardiovascular Room, Fitness Systems Room, and Free Weight Room
