Working at the Rec CenterThe Recreation Center is always looking for student employees to join our energetic and enthusiastic team. Various jobs are available in each of our departments to fit all schedules.

Are you eligible for employment?
The Recreation Center hires student and non - student positions. Student positions must be enrolled in at least 6 or more undergraduate credits or 3 or more graduate credits. Non - student positions are restricted to fitness instructors and Club Sport coaches.

Student-Only Positions

Open Administration Office - The front desk assistant position is customer service oriented. In addition to greeting and directing patrons, answering phones and data entry, assistance is needed in processing the payroll. BC
Closed Bear Creek Info Clerk - The door staff is responsible for enforcing the entry policies for the facility and providing information and security to the patrons. BC
Closed Bear Creek Supervisor - The Bear Creek Building Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision and security of the recreation facility, tanning salon, and the student staff. It is very important that the building supervisor has strong leadership and management skills. BC, PE
Open Bear Creek Custodial - The student custodial staff is responsible for the cleaning of the fitness room equipment, the cardio equipment, and the tanning booths in the facility. BC
Closed Building Services Info Clerk - The door staff is responsible for enforcing the entry policies for the facility and providing information and security to the patrons.
Open Building Services Facility Supervisor - The Facility Supervisor is responsible for serving the patrons of the University of Colorado Student Recreation Center while carrying out routine and special duties. The Facility Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and security of the day to day operations of the facility and all other student employees working in the facilities. It is very important that the Facility Supervisor has strong leadership and management skills. BS, PE
Closed Security Staff Special Events - The Security and Special Event Staff is responsible for enforcing facility policies and providing a safe and welcoming environment for patrons during special events and sporting events in the facilities. BC, PE
Open Club Sports Office - Responsible for providing excellent customer service to student athletes and coaches by addressing their needs through processing forms, reports, handling equipment and uniforms, and answering questions as well as other duties as assigned.
Open Club Sport IT Supervisor - Responsible for maintaining the official department web site, on - line forms, waiver and special event forms and promotional materials. Must be proficient with MS Office, specifically Excel, Access, Word, and Publisher. Proficiency with website design (html, Flash, or website programs) and programming skills in Java and C++ are desired for creating/editing online forms.
Open Club Sports Media Intern - Responsible for interviewing student athletes and coaches to gather appropriate information for writing articles and press releases and submitting these to the local media.
Open Club Accounting Intern - Responsible for making deposits, recording and reporting all financial transactions and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles, as well as state and federal rules and regulations.
Open Club Sport Coaches - Responsible for coordinating and facilitating practices as well as developing competition game plans while following all University and departmental policies and procedures. Coaches may be paid (temporary/part - time) or voluntary and do not receive any University benefits. See our list of competitive sport clubs.
Closed Childcare Worker - Be part of a team in our drop - in children's center. Must have experience caring for young children. References required. BC PE
Open Checkout Clerk - Provide front line customer service by distributing sports equipment to patrons. You must be able to work weekends, early mornings, and late nights. Previous customer service preferred but not required.
Closed Cashier - Provide customer service in selling membership, classes, intramurals, and lockers. You must be able to work weekends, early mornings, and late nights. Previous customer service preferred but not required. BC CPR
Closed Intramural Officials (General) - The Intramural Sports Official officiates and may keep accurate records and scores of those contests sponsored by the Intramural program. The official must maintain orderly conduct, an environment that promotes safety and fairness on the court or field to which he/she is assigned, and will perform other duties as assigned. No experience necessary - we will train you. All officials must attend all meetings and trainings.
Closed Intramural Scorekeeper - Responsibilities include continually updating scores for Intramural activities, preparing pre and post game paperwork, and other duties assigned by the Intramural/Recreational Sports staff. Scorekeepers will also be responsible for checking in players before every game.
Closed Intramural Office - Intramural Office Assistant acts as first contact for customer service in the office of intramural sports. Aids office manager in day - to - day responsibilities of intramural registration, roster creation, updating scores, and game sheet creation. Assist with articulating rules and regulations of the Recreation Center to the campus
Open Ice Arena Skate Shop/Zamboni Driver -Current drivers license, American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications. As a rink supervisor your primary responsibility is for the safety of any person using the ice arena. Responsibilities include diligent and consistent rule enforcement, providing emergency intervention, equipment check out, pulling goals on and off the ice, and recording equipment room readings. Ice resurfacer driving instruction and ability to pass driver test required within first 30 days of employment. Working one open/close and/or weekend shift as well as at least one “break” period per semester.
Closed Instruction Program Office - General office management including typing, filing, phones, and special projects. Position requires direct customer service in support of the program. Office hours are weekdays between 7am - 7pm. CPR
Closed Pool Guards - Current American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, or NASCO in lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR. As a lifeguard your primary responsibility is for the safety of any person using the swimming pool and diving well. Responsibilities include supervising recreational swimmers through proper scanning and consistent rule enforcement, preventing accidents and injuries and providing emergency intervention. Assist in maintaining pool cleanliness by participating in cleaning duties as assigned. Attend all in-service training sessions, complete mandatory weekly 500 yd. swimming and working one open/close and/or weekend shift as well as at least one “break” period per semester.CRT
Closed Weight Room Attendants - Weight Room attendants supervise the weight room and fitness areas in the Student Recreation Center. They are available to answer any questions, spot, provide general assistance, and perform fitness orientations. They enforce policies and keep areas safe, clean and organized.

Closed Outdoor Program Office - This job requires excellent customer service skills. Job duties include handling of course registrations/enrollment, answering and replying to phone calls/emails, and other organizational tasks. BC
Closed OP Instructors - To be considered for a position as an instructor, you must have professional experience or training with your desired position. If you are interested, you may drop off a professional resume at the Outdoor Program office. BC, PE
Closed Rock Wall attendant - Tasks include monitoring of patrons safety, keeping users within guidelines, opening and closing of rock wall, new membership registrations, administering skills checks, cleaning of rock wall area, and keeping inventories on gear.

Now that you are hired… What's next?
Come to the Main Office Room 118 - Bottom of the main staircase in the Main Rec Center. The Payroll Administrator will have paperwork you need to fill out. You will NOT be paid until all the required paperwork is filled out correctly.

What you NEED to bring with you:

Required Trainings:

Discrimination and Harassment workshop - You will need to attend this workshop in the first 30 days of employment. You will need your employee ID at this workshop.

Pay:

Students are paid every two weeks. You are responsible to fill out, sign, and turn in your time card to your supervisor.

It is important that your address and banking information is correct at all times. Please provide this information to the Payroll Administrator.

It is important that your address and banking information is correct at all times. Provide this information to the Payroll Administrator.

If you claim exempt on your W4, you will need to fill out a new W4 form every year.

If you have not received a W2, you can now access it on your CU Connect page. Log into CU Connect and scroll down to the bottom of the page to the heading for "My CU Links" and click on W2 Statement. Or you can go to https://www.cusys.edu/pbs/forms/#w and fill out the form to reissue a W2.

FAQs

What if I don't have a social security card?
You will need to visit the Social Security Office to get another card re - issued. They are located at 4949 Pearl East Cr., Suite 101, Boulder 303 - 543 - 9492. Bring an ID with you.
What is Work - Study?
A work - study award is part of a Federal Financial Aid Award. If you receive financial aid, work - study may be awarded to you depending on availability of funds.
Why didn't I get paid?
There are a number of reasons for not getting paid. For example, you may have not signed your time card. You will need to see your payroll administrator to find out why you didn't get paid.
What is the difference between a W - 4 and a W - 2?
A W - 4 form is needed so that your employer can withhold the correct federal income tax from your pay. A W - 2 is a wage statement sent to you at the end of the year for tax filing.
What if my address changes?
It is important to let the payroll office know of your address change so that you can continue to receive important payroll information.
What happens to my direct deposit pay if I close my account or change banks?
It is very important to let your payroll administrator know of the change before you close your account so there is no break in pay.
What if I have another job on campus?
You will still need to fill out paperwork for the Recreation Center payroll office, but it will be minimal. It is also important to track your hours if you are working for multiple departments to avoid overtime.
