Occasions Online: About the Prizes

The First Year Prize: This prize, funded by the Program for Writing and Rhetoric, has been awarded to the strongest essay written in a 1000-level PWR course.

The Hardy Long Frank Prize: Also sponsored by the Program for Writing and Rhetoric, this prize is awarded to superlative work written by students in PWR 3020 classes and by non-engineering majors in PWR 3030 classes.  Its name honors Dr. Hardy Long Frank for her tireless devotion to the cause of strong student writing.

The Mackison Prize: This prize, made possible by the generosity of Donald Mackison, is awarded annually to engineering students for work written in WRTG-3030 sections.

The Business Prize: Also funded by PWR, this prize honors the best work submitted from all sections of WRTG-3040.

The Levitt Prize: This prize, made possible by a generous gift from Benjamin and Jeanette Levitt, honored the best essays written in any junior-level UWRP course.  (The UWRP, or University Writing Program, was the program that preceded the current PWR).

The PWR thanks all of the above sponsors for their generosity, and for recognizing the power of a well-crafted essay.
