As we near the end of the year it is time for the renewal of your faculty/staff Eco Pass. This year, smart cards will be automatically renewed in RTD’s system and no new Eco Pass smart cards will be mailed. As long as you remain eligible for the Eco Pass, the same smart card you received in 2013 will continue to work on buses and light rail in 2014. If you do not have an Eco Pass, but think you are eligible, you may e-mail email@example.com to verify your eligibility.
Each new eligible faculty/staff member will be issued an RTD smart card at the Buff OneCard office when they receive their campus ID card.
The RTD smart card is a contactless card that is similar to a photo ID (like the Buff OneCard) that contains a chip which stores Eco Pass data. The smart card is electronically reloaded in RTD’s system each year and simply turned off when an employee is no longer eligible.
Riders simply tap their smart cards on the validator and show the driver the card when boarding the bus so that the driver can match the photo on the card to your face.
As RTD continues to transition to the smart card program, riders have experienced technical and driver difficulties. Should you have difficulties when riding, RTD has suggested that riders print this RTD-published Driver Bulletin. If you experience issues with your smart card, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the bus number and the error message displayed by the bus card reader.
Any CU employee working with more than a 20 percent of full-time appointment on the Boulder campus, excluding students and temporary employees, is eligible for an Eco Pass. Eligibility is determined by your employment records in the PeopleSoft HR system.
Replacement cards can be picked up at the Buff OneCard office in room N180 of the Center for Community. There is a $10 fee to replace a lost pass.
Yes, the Buff OneCard is your official form of university identification and it can be used to access other campus services such as libraries, printing, campus cash, and door access.
In 2009, RTD implemented a $5 surcharge for all Eco Pass holders on all skyRide trips to DIA. With the new smart card system, Eco Pass riders will be charged $2.50 each way to and from DIA. Ask the drivers for receipts for reimbursement if you are traveling on campus business.
Please keep your Eco Pass smart card; you never know when you’ll need it. Your smart card can be used on the Stampede bus, for travel between Main and East campus. Additionally, CU has partnered with the city of Boulder to bring Eco Pass holders great discounts at local businesses. More information on the Eco Pass Extra program can be found at www.ecopassextra.net.
Eligibility is determined by your employment records in PeopleSoft. If you have an appointment of 20 percent of full time or more, or can demonstrate that you work more than 416 hours per year on campus, e-mail email@example.com to discuss your eligibility.
