peter grace and linda watkinsCU Psychology and Neuroscience Research Assistant Professor Peter Grace and Distinguished Professor Linda Watkins were in the news as a result of their publication in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The research demonstrated that administration of a short course of morphine after nerve injury in rats doubles the duration of neuropathic pain. This effect appears to occur through the “priming” of microglial cells. Given the prevalence of the use of opiods to treat pain, this research has been picked up broadly in the popular and scientific press.
