Graduate Programs

If you have completed or are completing a four-year bachelor's degree with a high level of excellence and wish to further your education, you may pursue a graduate degree at CU-Boulder.

Master's degree (MA, MS)
70 programs; the master's degree is usually completed in two or two and one-half years of full-time study. Requirements vary, depending on the program.

Doctorate (PhD)
51 programs; the highest degree conferred by the university. Doctoral programs usually build upon master's level work and require completion of course work, a comprehensive examination, original research, and a dissertation.

Business
MS or PhD degree in business administration offered through the Graduate School; or master of business administration (MBA) offered through the Leeds School of Business.

Education
MA or PhD in three areas of concentration: educational psychological studies; curriculum and instruction; and social, multicultural, and bilingual foundations.

PhD only: research and evaluation methodology.

Engineering and Applied Science
MS or PhD in: aerospace engineering sciences; chemical and biological engineering; civil, environmental, and architectural engineering; computer science; electrical and computer engineering; and mechanical engineering.

MS in interdisciplinary telecommunications.

ME degree in engineering management.

Humanities
MA and PhD programs: classics, comparative literature, English, French, history, philosophy, and Spanish.

MA only: East Asian languages and civilizations, Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures, and religious studies.

Journalism
MA in mass communication research or news gathering and PhD in communication-media Studies.  

Law

Biological and Physical Sciences
MS and PhD programs: applied mathematics; astrophysical and planetary sciences; atmospheric and oceanic sciences; environmental studies; geological sciences; integrative physiology; mathematics; and physics.

MA and PhD programs: ecology and evolutionary biology; geography; and mathematics.

PhD only programs: biochemistry; chemistry; cognitive science; geophysics and hydrologic sciences; molecular, cellular, and developmental biology; neuroscience; and psychology.

Music, Fine Arts, Theatre, and Dance
Master of music (MMus) and master of music education (MMusEd); or PhD or doctor of musical arts (DMusA).  MA in art history and MFA in studio arts. MFA in dance. MA or PhD in theatre.

Social and Behavioral Sciences
MA and PhD programs: anthropology; communication; geography; linguistics; political science; speech, language, and hearing sciences. MS program in museum and field studies.  AuD program in audiology. PhD programs: economics; psychology; sociology and technology, media and society.
