The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, now in its 49th season, is produced in affiliation with the Department of Theatre and Dance, and employs graduate students as dramaturgs, directors' assistants, and performers.

Areas of Study and ResearchResearch in the area of theatre history, theory and literature. Opportunities in theatre production, including acting, directing, dramaturgy, and design. Credit for course work outside the department that relates to particular research interests may apply to total required for the degree.
Degrees Offered
MA
The nonthesis track MA requires demonstrated proficiency in two areas:
academic coursework and the final exam (written and oral). The thesis
track MA requires demonstrated proficiency in three areas: academic coursework,
the thesis and the final exam (oral). The minimum requirement for the
MA is 30 credit hours, at least 24 of which must be completed at the 5000
level or above.
PhD
The PhD requires demonstrated proficiency in four areas: academic coursework,
reading competency in at least one foreign language, the comprehensive
exam, and the dissertation. Thirty course credit hours are required. All
must be of graduate rank (5000 level or above). In addition, 30 dissertation
credits are required.
Admission
Graduate School Minimum Admissions Standards
Individual graduate departments may have additional or more restrictive
standards by which they evaluate graduate applicants. However, the Graduate
School at CU-Boulder has established minimum standards for graduate admission.
Applicants must:
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited
college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required
for such a degree.
- Show promise of ability to pursue advanced study
and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.
- Have adequate preparation to enter graduate
study in the chosen field.
- Have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average. Note: Applicants who cannot meet this undergraduate standard may still secure regular admission if they have completed 9 semester hours of relevant graduate course work with at least a 3.25 average.
Theatre Admissions Requirements
Applicants must:
- Provide current GRE scores
- Provide 3 or more letters of recommendation.
- Provide a sample of critical or analytical writing (10-20 pages).
- Show evidence of theatre performance, and/or production experience (current resume or CV)
Financial Support Available
Teaching assistantships, graduate assistantships, graduate part-time instructors,
grants, and fellowships.
