Admission

Graduate School Minimum Admissions Standards
Individual graduate departments may have additional or more restrictive standards by which they evaluate graduate applicants. However, the Graduate School at CU-Boulder has established minimum standards for graduate admission.  Applicants must have:

  1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.
  2. Ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record.
  3. Adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field.
  4. Have at least a 3.00 (3.00=B) undergraduate grade point average.  Note:  Applicants who cannot meet this undergraduate standard may still secure regular admission if they have completed 12 semester hours of relevant graduate course work with at least a 3.25 average.

Engineering Management Core Admission Requirements
Applicants must have:

  1. Baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or a physical science.
  2. Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00. Applicants with a GPA under 3.00 are required to take the GRE.
  3. Minimum of two years of professional experience after the undergraduate degree.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in narrative writing.   Proctored writing exam is required.
  5. Four letters of recommendation (two professional and two academic).
Work Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of two years of experience in a technical field and a bachelor's degree in engineering or hard science to be admitted in regular status. Prospective degree students who do not have an undergraduate degree in engineering or a technical field have an opportunity to take pre-entrance courses to qualify for admission into the program.

International Applicants
International applications move through a two-step process. First, the application materials are processed through the Office of International Admission and then forwarded to Engineering Management for an academic evaluation.  International students submit their application materials 2–4 months prior to the departmental deadlines to ensure adequate processing time.
