Step 2) Apply for Housing

CU-Boulder residence halls offer a complete living environment, a variety of floor plans and room costs, social activities, and academic services designed to help you meet whatever goals you set for yourself during the years ahead. Whether you're an incoming freshman, or a transfer, upper-division, or graduate student, you'll appreciate residence hall life for its convenience, value, and supportive atmosphere. Visit us at the Department of Housing web site for more information on housing options.

CU-Boulder requires freshmen to live in a university residence hall for two academic year semesters and places a priority on reserving space for them. (Summer term does not count as an academic semester.)

Application Information

After you have confirmed your intent to enroll with the Office of Admissions, you'll receive a letter from the Department of Housing and Dining Services with your official university student identification number (SID) and information enabling you to apply for residence hall accommodations.

Freshmen who apply by mid-May can usually get housing for the following fall term. However, the earlier you confirm, the sooner you will be able to apply for housing and the better chance you have of being assigned to the residence hall of your choice. If you are admitted for a summer term and plan to continue at CU-Boulder in the fall, send in your summer and fall housing applications at the same time.

Family Housing
For student families, couples, single parents, and nontraditional students, Family Housing provides a variety of furnished and unfurnished apartments within easy walking distance from campus.

Off-Campus Housing
Freshmen who are married or who live with their parents or guardians in the Denver-Boulder area and wish to commute may petition (and normally receive approval) to reside off campus. Requests for permission to reside off campus for other reasons will be considered on their own merit, taking into account individual circumstances. Petition requests should be filed with the reservations manager before applying for housing.

Although many transfer, upper-division, and graduate students choose residence hall life for its convenience and value, others choose to look for living accommodations off-campus. Off-Campus Student Services can provide students with lists of available apartments and rooms as well as information on leases, roommates, and roommate issues.
