Programs held in cooperation with the CU Police Department
Committee on Personal Safety (COPS)
Made up of representatives from many areas of the University (including parents), COPS addresses current safety issues and informs students, faculty , and staff about available campus security resources through publications, programs, and involvement with groups. The committee specifically promotes safety by providing safety information at orientation, distributing alert whistles, publishing a campus lighting map, and supporting the CU Rape and Gender Education program (COURAGE) and Nightride/Nightwalk programs.
Crisis Follow-up
Crisis follow-up services are provided for individuals, groups, and residence hall residents who have been victims of crime or violence. Information is presented regarding personal safety and coping with traumatic events. These services are available through Counseling and Career Services: A Multicultural Center, Wardenburg Student Health Center, and Boulder Police Victim Advocacy Program.
CU Rape and Gender Education Program (COURAGE)
The purpose of this educational program (sponsored by Wardenburg Student Health Center and the University of Colorado Student Union) is to increase awareness of date/acquaintance rape at CU-Boulder.
Drug and Alcohol Peer Educators
Within Wardenburg Student Health Center, students provide their peers with information on the abuse of alcohol and drugs.
New Student Orientation
Presentation on substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV), and prevention strategies at CU-Boulder, for parents of incoming freshmen students.
Nightride/Nightwalk
These UCSU prevention programs are intended to improve campus safety. NightRide NightWalk offers students rides to and from any two points within the city of Boulder. Nightwalk provides students, faculty, and staff with trained volunteer escorts to and from locations on campus and various locations on the "Hill." Drunk or abusive individuals may be refused service.
