Community Service Aide

A CSA's major task is to watch for suspicious activity around campus, provide the public with information about the Police Department and be visible on campus to help people feel safer. This will be done primarily by patrolling the west end of campus and the parking structures and making contacts with the public. Because of their high visibility, CSAs will be a valuable resource in terms of public relations. They need to be well-trained since they may be the only member of the Police Department with whom a citizen communicates, and her or his impression of UCPD may depend on attitudes and knowledge the CSAs have. CSAs will also distribute brochures, personal safety whistles, Parking Services maps, cards specifying the location of call boxes, and cards listing the phone numbers of services available in Boulder County. In addition to these duties, CSAs may be called upon to do stake outs in areas of high criminal activity. In these instances they would be asked to watch one area for an extended period of time for any suspicious activity.
