Calls for Service
The University Police communications center relays reports of crimes in progress via radio to uniformed officers in the field. These officers patrol the campus by car, bicycle, and foot. Officers are authorized to carry firearms and are trained in laws concerning the use of force.
Officers respond to crime reports as appropriate, using state and municipal laws as guidelines. These officers decide to detain, arrest or merely warn offenders based on established standards of criminal or constitutional law. University police officers write reports on all law violations and use them to compile year-end Crime Statistics for the FBI's Uniform Crime Report.
