Welcome to Physics 7440, Theory of the Solid State!

This is an introductory graduate-level course in solid state physics, focusing on the electronic properties of solids.  For more information on the course and a rough outline of topics to be covered, see the syllabus.

Our textbook will be Solid State Physics, by N. W. Ashcroft and N. D. Mermin (referred to as A+M throughout this webpage).  You will need a copy, since I will assign reading and some problems in it.

Thanks for a good semester.  Enjoy your summer!

Solutions to the final exam.

The final exam is now available, and is due at 5pm on Tuesday 5/6/08.  Good luck!

Older problem sets and solutions remain available on the assignments page.

Reading:  A+M chapters 22-24.
