A few thoughts about the amount of time commitment required for this course.
The course has been created so that the more effort and time you put in, the more you get out of it.
Remember, you're embarking on a study of an entirely new field here. Their are deep veins for exploration, if you so choose. Thus, I have no maximum time commitment required for this course.
However, I do recognize the constrains of the modern world and our current educational system. Thus, below I reiterate my discussion of how to spend time in this class. The course is a 3 credit course. I have designed the course so you spend between 2 and 3 hrs outside of class for every credit hour inside class. It can breakdown as follows:
Tuesday readings / reflections: upto 3 hrs
Thursday homework/ writeup: ~ 1.5 - 2 hrs
Fieldwork / fieldnotes: ~ 3 hrs
Class time: 2.5 hrs.
These are roughly the minimum time allotments that will help you master the material. While this may seem like a lot of work, it is not necessarily designed to be particularly difficult (though, some areas more difficult than others). Again, the more effort you put in here, the more you'll get out of this course.
I appreciate your feedback on the workload. Keep me posted on how you are spending your time.
