Older announcements (of Week 1 and 2):
- IMPORTANT: Late enrollment in CAPA!!! If you have enrolled for the course after Saturday, Jan 10, you will not be automatically enrolled in the CAPA system. Please go here and follow the link to the CAPA late enrollment page. A human being is involved, so this will take up to a working day. You will receive an Email once you are enrolled in the CAPA system. There will be no CAPA set printed for you this week. But that's ok, go to the regular CAPA link and click on "CAPA PIN-Getter". You will receive your 4-digit PIN for the week and can use it to log on and work on the CAPA set.
- First CAPA set is online and in your boxes
Please try at least the first problem until Wednesday and talk to us when you experience any problems with the CAPA system. -
Instructions and Prelab for Lab 1 are online
Read the Student Lab Guide and Expectations and the instructions for lab 1, and do the prelab before coming to the lab.
Due to the holiday, students enrolled in the Monday's lab sections will have to attend a lab section on another day. - Welcome to Physics 2020 !!
- No labs/recitations in the first week
First day of Class: Monday, Jan 12 - Please bring an iClicker every day, even to the first class!
- Extra credit opportunities - Two preterm surveys:
- The physics education research group is interested in your thoughts about learning physics. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. It will be available the first week (or so) of class, and we will give you a lecture's worth of bonus (extra credit!) clicker points for taking the time. (We get a list of participants, and averaged responses, but your personal answers are not linked to your name, so please give your honest opinions)
- We are also curious about your background knowledge of the content we are teaching this term. Here is a physics survey (details as above). Obviously your score will not count against you, it's "participation only" for extra credit - this is not material we expect you to know yet (!!) But give it a try, see how far logic, guessing, "test-taking skills", and intuition can get you. (And it may be a nice feeling that by the end of the term, you will know a lot of that stuff!)
-
Your participation is helpful to us, as we continually
try to improve our course! (If you only have time for one,
do the first one above)
