The formula for your grade in 2010 is exactly what was stated in the
syllabus at the beginning of the semester: "The total grade weighting
will be 20% for HW sets and quizzes (combined); 12.5% for each of the
three midterm exams; 27.5% for the final exam, and 15% for the labs.
Scores from lab reports and quizzes graded by TA's will be renormalized
so that each TA has the same average score, to correct for differences
in individual grading styles. " The 20% for HW and quizzes is now set
at 16% CAPA, 4% quizzes (this is what I suggested would happen when I
posted the midterm grades) Each TA's average score was renormalized to
approximately 80% for lab and 80% for quizzes.
Here is what the distribution of these scores looks like:
To get your own score, go to the Grade Getter
page, which will email you your current score (as a
percentage) and the course grade based on this score.
(You may enter ANY of your valid CAPA pin numbers from the whole semester.)
If you see a problem (e.g., if I have an incorrect score for you) let
me know ASAP.
Class average is 74, which is a borderline B-/C+ case.
This is also the median, which means about
half the class got an A or B, and half
did not.
(If you missed a midterm for which you were excused, I used the average
of the other two.)
I dropped whatever CAPA score would maximize your remaining CAPA average. (That's *usually* the lowest one, but e.g. if you got 0/6 on the first one,
and 1/24 on a later one, it's better for me to drop the 1/24 even though 1
is bigger than zero.
