If you're feeling lost (with homework, exams, or class work) don't
panic!! There are lots of resources available to you. Remember that
some homework problems are designed to be hard enough that you might
need to get help - find some study partners, come to the help room and
meet with other 1240 students, or come to one of our specially
organized help sessions.
Here is a compilation of
some resources...
Summary of study sessions (see details below for what these are, and where to find them):
(Click on a staff name to send an email, if you want to contact any of us!)
NOTE: Exam weeks, there will be an extra evening office hour Wed 6=7+ PM. (See exam page for location)
Similarly, the regular Thursday afternoon and Friday hours will be cancelled exam weeks (since there's no CAPA those weeks), unless you WANT to see us - in which case, feel free to just email.
NOTE: Roberta Tanner will no longer be able to help out - her Wed office hours are gone. Sorry about that, an emergency arose and she is now busy teaching a different class!
-
Virtual office hours. Maybe somebody else in
class already asked your question! Check here first!
- Our CULearn page https://culearn.colorado.edu has a threaded discussion tool so you can ask each other questions and respond easily. Check it out, it's only useful if you participate!
- Physics Help Room
hours. This is in the basement below our class, open 9-5 M-F. There
should always be a Physics grad student there (not connected with our
class, but they might be able to help you...) What's better, though, is this
is generally a great place to meet fellow 1240
students to collaborate with - look for a table with a Phys 1240 sign!
- Weekly study sessions: A time and place for you to come and work together! Prof. Pollock, and/or one of our Learning Assistants, will be present at these sessions to provide “coaching” on problem solving methods. (that's not to give you answers, but to help facilitate your learning!) The times and room numbers are summarized at the top of this page, and described below.
Note: students begin this class with a range of backgrounds, so it is impossible for each class to be perfectly matched to everyone’s background. The primary purpose of office hours is to provide individual help to students that need it. We are anxious to provide whatever help is necessary for every student, regardless of their background, to do well in the course and achieve all of the learning goals. However, it is your responsibility to recognize that you need that help, and to take advantage of its availability by asking to meet with us.
