Physics 1240 : Sound and
Music
Help and resources
If you're feeling lost (with homework, exams, or class work) don't
panic!! There are lots of resources available to you. Remember that
some homework problems are designed to be hard enough that you might
need to get help - find some study partners, come to the help room and
meet with other 1240 students, or come to one of our specially
organized help sessions.
Here is a complilation of
some resources...
-
Virtual office hours. Maybe somebody else in
class already asked your question! Check here first.
- Physics Help Room
hours. This is in the basement below our class, open 9-5 M-F. There
should always be a Physics grad student there (not connected with our
class, but they ought to be able to help you). What's better, though is this
is generally a great place to meet fellow 1240
students to collaborate with - look for a table with a Phys 1240 sign!
- Weekly study and review session with TA Jeff Merkel . Tentatively
scheduled for Wed 7-9 PM. (In an empty room across from the lecture hall,
just find him)
- Weekly study and review session with LA Chris Rosen . Thursday
2-4 in the help room or a nearby location (just outside)
- Weekly study and review session with TA David Malaspina. Thursday
4-6 PM, in the help room or a nearby location (just outside the help room)
- Weekly study and review session with Michale Fuchs, a physics teacher involved with our
course. Wed 10-11 AM near the help room (or contact him, he's happy to set
up other meeting times!)
- Prof Pollock's office hours. Mon
1:30-2:30 in F419 for more administrative questions. Wed 1-2 or Thurs
10-11 in the help room for physics/homeworky questions. (Subject to
change, I'll try to find hours when the most people want to come!)
- Our assistant Vince Ferreri has an office hour in the help room
Thursday 11-class, also available by appointment!
-
David Steussy
is a grader for this course, you can email
him to meet for questions in the help room, if you'd like. (He's a little
busier than our other personnel, so this is a "last option", but fine to
try if you need to)
- Read the discussion at the bottom of our homework
page for thoughts on dealing with CAPA.
- Essay on Problem Solving strategies for this class.
- Essay on how to succeed in physics
classes (a little more generic)
- Tutor for hire list.
- Student Academic Services
- NightRide/NightWalk. For rides to/from campus after dark, call
