Physics 1110,
General Physics 1
The semester at a glance:
We've covered a lot of ground this semester! I hope you have begun to
see the deep, intimate and ubiquitous connections between what we learn
in class and what you experience in the world. I also hope you have
started to sense that physics is not a complicated
"hodgepodge" (as the pictures above might suggest to the uninitiated!),
but instead that all the diverse phenomena of the world are
unified, and indeed are even simple and comprehensible at their
core.
Newton's Laws form the backbone, the framework for
understanding the "classical" world we live in - tying together the
formulas, the phenomena, and the concepts into a beautiful and tightly
woven tapestry.
Next semester, you will learn about electricity and
magnetism, fundamental forces that (nearly) complete this classical
story. Enjoy!
End of semester:
Course is over!
Special notes:
- IMPORTANT: If you're going to take Phys 1120 next fall, hang on to
your tutorial books! We'll be using them again... (We'll use volumes III/IV
of HRW, so if you have the paperback version of volumnes I/II, you'll need
to buy that)
- We're all done! See exams and grades page for information.
- I have emailed grades. (PLUS should have them by now as well)
We welcome your comments on the class and this website. Send them to Prof. Pollock
