Feedback 11:

I know that you can't demonstrate a nuclear bomb in class, but the lecture was confusing at times and I wish we could have had some time of visual demonstration. It would take some creativity, so I don't blame you for not having anything!

indeed.. .you hsould be happy there are no demos! Though the simulation should give you a feel, particularly for chain-reactions.

Lately I've really enjoyed what we've been learning about in class, which I believe is based in my sincere interest of the subject. The whole physics of entertainment systems was a bit of a bore for me and consequently I struggled. I could not help thinking of my annoying neigbors who drive us crazy almost everynight blasting the speakers on their entertainmnet systems, which makes for less of a learning experience in the class room. On the other hand I've thoroughly enjoyed learning about lenses, cameras, and how our eye works much more. The most likely reason for this is because my wife's primary hobby is photography and now we can have more indepth conversations about that subject. Thanks for spreading the subject matter around and I am looking forward to learning about nuclear energy.

thanks for the honest feedback... as we continue I'm including more of your class votes on things. Also the paper is a great chance

I am excited to learn about nuclear weapons!

Class is going great, I just need a little more direction on the rubric for the paper. If you could talk about that in class this week that would be helpful.

I'll bring that up again this week. And post more details on the website.

I think it would be cool in some of your experiments to ask students to come flip switches or shrink balloons. It'd be a good way to get class interaction. The steel drum experiment was awesome![...]Speaking of jokes, the classroom looked like clown training school at the end of Thursday's lecture. But the ballons were great demonstrations. The liquid nitrogen experiment was a great demonstration in pressure, volume and temperature. It was a very all-inclusive conceptual experiment.

great idea... next time I'm dealing with high voltage or radiation I'll bring up volunteers ; )... seriously that's an excellent suggestion.

I am really enjoying the paper that we have to write. It gives me an opportunity to explore an area of interest to me, and I am learning more about golf, I think that it could help my game out too.

COOL! who said physics class wasn't useful?!?!?

I just felt like the homework this week was a little difficult to understand, and the simulation I didn't feel was very helpful.

fair enough... always feel free to ask me to clarify homework (preferably in advance of the due date), but I'm often online to answer questions.

This isn't a question about last week's topics but I'm wondering if you know any good books or websites that deal with the physics of everyday life (besides our book and howstuffworks.com) that a student could explore after finishing 1010 and 1020?

great question. Yes, I know a couple and will make a list for this class....

I appreciated the feedback that I got on my outline. I had been a little confused and I wasn't sure if I was going in the right direction or if I was right about what was going on. Now I feel more comfortable with my topic and my paper. I was wondering if we could just touch a little (like for the first 10 minutes of class) on Tuesday on what we did the week before Spring Break. It's not that I forgot - it's just that I was wondering if you could just kind of say a few words about what we did to refresh my memory and help me apply any of those concepts to what we're doing this week. thanks.

hope the review was helpful I know we jump around a bit on topics, but they're dessigned to cover a broad range, and hopefully build on one another...

i really enjoyed this week's lectures. the simulations and analogies used were especially helpful in my understanding of pressure and buoyancy, areas that i struggled with a lot last year. i have a much better grasp on the differences between the two and how they relate to each other. i also appreciated the freedom we had with our papers because i felt like i could go and find a topic that was new to me and dive in, instead of following the typical paper format i get in other classes.

great.... glad things are working out
