The Magic of Chemistry

The CU Wizards Show on Saturday, October 20, 2007, will explore 'The Magic of Chemistry.' The show will demonstrate reactions that might appear 'magical,' but instead are based on well-understood, fascinating chemistry. The show will have a Halloween theme, and children are invited to wear costumes! Four students, who are 'wizards in training,' will assist with reactions that produce heat, light, color changes, and polymeric products. The rates of reactions will be varied by changing concentration, temperature, surface area, and adding catalysts. Students will be invited to predict the results of the experiments using 'clickers.' Don't miss the fire-breathing pumpkin and other 'magic!'
