Teaching/Outreach

Ivan Smalyukh is organizing Outreach Activities

Spring 2009: Ivan Smalyukh is teaching Graduate Course Phys 7810-003 Soft Condensed Matter Physics.

Physicists reveal the nature's most fundamental laws and introduce the concepts that underpin development of novel technologies. Through education and outreach, physicists can provide striking examples of the power of quantitative reasoning and discovery. Ivan Smalyukh and his group are strongly committed to education at all levels and outreach, which are a performed synergetically with the pursuit of new scientific knowledge. This approach is of vital importance not only for training the future outstanding scientists and engineers, but also for the education of general public. Our educational activities range from teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, to the instruction of conference short courses and in-company training, to organizing outreach days and science tours, and also to providing the hands-on experimental physics experiences in our laboratory. Recent educational activities and outreach efforts include:

Inter-Continental Advanced Materials for Photonics I-CAMP'10 (organized by Ivan Smalyukh, and Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop) is taking place in two cities in Australia (Sydney-Brisbane, June 20-July 10, 2010): http://icamconferences.org/i-camp2010/

Inter-Continental Advanced Materials for Photonics I-CAMP'09 (organized by Ivan Smalyukh, Ron Shen, and Sailing He) is taking place in four cities (Hangzhou, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Beijing) in China: http://icamconferences.org/i-camp/

Spring 2009: Ivan Smalyukh is teaching Graduate Course Phys 7810-003 Soft Condensed Matter Physics.

Fall 2008: Ivan Smalyukh is teaching course PHYS 1230 Light and Color for Nonscientists.

Ivan Smalyukh and Noel Clark organize an Outreach Forum at the Workshop on light-controlled liquid crystalline complex adaptive materials, LC2CAM, August 7-10, 2008 LC2CAM: Light-Controlled Liquid Crystalline Complex Adaptive Materials

Prof. Smalyukh is teaching a conference short course SC790: Liquid Crystals: From Fundamentals to Applications, at SPIE Optics & Photonics conference, San Diego, August 10-14, 2008

Prof. Smalyukh is teaching a conference short course SC790: Liquid Crystals: From Fundamentals to Applications, at Photonics West, San Jose, January 19-24, 2008
