University of Colorado, Preparing Future Physics Faculty Program

Topic: Site Visit to Colorado School of Mines

Hosts: Tom Furtak & colleagues at CSM

Date: November 30, 2006

Abstract: This past November a group of eight physics graduate students made a site visit to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.  The trip was planned jointly by the Graduate Teacher Program and the Preparing Future Physicists program in order to allow those students contemplating future faculty positions a chance to see what a school unlike CU-Boulder is like.  While spending the day at Mines students got an opportunity to tour the campus, hear administrators’ point of view, and talk to faculty members about their experiences teaching and researching at Mines.  Of the six students who responded to an informal survey, all six found the site visit to be very informative and helpful in getting a feel for what Mines’ Physics department is like.
