Some natural capital dependencies of agriculture McClellan missed:

- Topsoil and the ecosystem services that produce it
- Fresh water and hydrological purification services
- Pollination services of insects
- Population buffering services of ecosystems for pest control
- Benign climate
- Genetic diversity for pest and disease resistance; this requires
genetic diversity of wild relatives of cultivars
as a source for biotechnology.
