This begs an important, and rarely addressed question:
Is there, after all, a "we" a humanity which is conscious? Is "we
humans" a being which makes choices and is responsible?

This concept is poorly articulated and its meaning is vague. The
relationships between the person (clearly: conscious, choosing and
responsible) and community, society... species are by no means clear.
