Mayo 31 2000
Either 80,000 or 40,000 people (depending on whether you believe labor
or Reuters) turned out for
a demonstration
on the day after an IMF delegation
made a visit. The primary speaker, Hugo Moyano, called for "fiscal disobedience"
(not paying taxes) to overthrow the "financial dictatorship." In his words
"We are going to be imprisoned, fined. We're going to hit them where it
hurts,
we're going to call for fiscal disobedience so that Argentines'
strength doesn't go to foreign debt.."

There are cafes along the streets where Don and Martha braved the police
from a resturant window
sipping wine and thinking about writing web pages like this one ;-)
