Subject: Winning the War They Started and Election 2004 Winning the War They
Started I have Mike Retzer's letter of last Friday asking that we do not turn our back on President Bush — that we contribute money to the campaign. I am anxious to comply with Mike's request. I want to win the war they started and to win the election in order to win that war and win the campaign to reverse the race to the bottom — as we race, instead, to worldwide democracy where possible, and prosperity for every deserving American and allies around the world. I applaud my President's determination to lower taxes as much as possible and to permit as much private and public investment as possible — for homeland defense, education, armed force and industrial might, etc. I pray the President will speak out with determination for these goals and ask the American people to support his demand that Congress put our nation on a war footing financially to spend all we can afford (based on full employment and maximum productivity) to win the war and spread democratic values (political and economic) at home and around the world.
From 1942 until 1946 America proved that a democracy can afford whatever it can produce. It can spend money created by its central bank against treasury bonds held by the bank and not sold to the public — in which case interest paid is returned to the treasury and spending is not constrained by immediate tax collections or intolerable debt. I will only vote for my President if he tries to win the war as hard as we tried from 1942 to 1946 (when I served in the United Sates Navy in war.)
