As most know, the "Survey of Consumer Finances" provides
insights into household finances (including "wealth" and
debt) and is conducted by the Federal Reserve:

Dear SCF User,
Barring another huge snowfall in Washington tonight and tomorrow, the
public version of the 2001 SCF data will be available tomorrow (February
28) on the Board's web site at
http://www.federalreserve.gov/pubs/oss/oss2/2001/scf2001home.html

Four noteworthy new items will be provided in addition to those that have
appeared for past years of our data. First, the main data file is now
available as an ASCII flat file for those who do not have access to SAS.
Second, the extract data file in Excel is also now available in a form that
includes a Visual Basic macro that may be used to create a wide variety of
tables from the extract data. Third, a chartbook is provided that contains
time series plots of ownership and mean and median holdings conditional on
ownership of a wide variety of assets, liabilities, and other variables
classified by a number of characteristics. Finally, a new Stata routine is
included in the 2001 SCF codebook that allows users to estimate models,
such as regressions and probits, while accounting for the multiply-imputed
nature of the data.

As noted in "recent changes to data sets and documentation," a large number
of minor corrections have been made to the earlier waves of data. Minor
corrections have also been made to the codebook. All the replicate weight
files have been replaced by a previously experimental version on which
registered users were asked to comment earlier; for many purposes, these
replicate weights will yield lower estimates of sampling error.

We are grateful to users who have brought data errors to our attention.
The SCF Team
