Peace & Conflict Studies Requirements

Here's how you can get a certificate in Peace & Conflict Studies at CU:
  • Before graduation, complete  PACS 2500, PACS 4500, 3 approved courses in your major and 3 approved courses outside of your major.  Most of this work (15 hours or more) must be at the upper division level.
  • It is an effective way to learn more about peace and conflict, and to gain skills to make the world a more peaceful place.
To sign up, please see Director Stanley Deetz.  Please fill out the Initial Sign Up Form before you drop by.

Requirements:

1. Completion of a major in any discipline in the University of Colorado (Peace and Conflict Studies is an interdisciplinary field that students can approach from many disciplines).

2. 24 hours of acceptable work (C or better) in University of Colorado courses, a minimum of 15 of which must be upper division.

 3. Completion of two core courses: "Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies," and "Senior Seminar in Peace and Conflict Studies" (totaling 6 of the 24 hours).

4. 9 hours of courses in the student's major department that are related to the field of peace and conflict studies (i.e., on the approved list of courses or approved by a PACS faculty advisor).*

5. 9 hours of courses outside the student's major department that are related to the field of peace and conflict studies (i.e., on the approved list of courses or approved by a PACS faculty advisor).

*In the event a major department does not have 9 hours of relevant courses, a PACS faculty advisor may allow for substitutions with PACS approved courses outside the major department.
