Residency Differences in Alcohol and Drug Use Among
CU-Boulder Undergraduates Spring 1999

(In-state N=218, Out-of-state N=153)

Out-of-state students:

• Tend to drink more often and more heavily than in-state students.
• Are more likely to ride with a drunk/high driver in the last month.
• Are more likely to have used marijuana in the last month.
• Are more likely to be binge drinkers both in High School and college, while in-state students are more likely to not binge in either High School or college.
• Report more negative outcomes due to drinking, such as having a hangover or missing a class.
• Report higher incidences of getting into a serious argument or quarrel as a result of another student's drinking.
