PBA Home > Institutional Research & Analysis > Surveys > Senior Survey 1998 > Overall Satisfaction > Change one thing about major program Senior Survey, 1998Open ended items - Change one thing about major programQ15: IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR MAJOR PROGRAM, WHAT WOULD IT BE? If a major program has 10 or fewer students, then the four-character major code is represented as XXXX to protect the respondent's anonymity. For a translation of the letter codes that represent the themes under which each comment was coded (e.g. U=major/core curriculum), see the document: "Best and Worst of Major: Codes and Themes." For a translation of the four-character SIS major codes see the Major Translation Table--last retrieved from Information Resource Management's web page on March 23, 2000.
MAJOR/CORE CURRICULUM
--Arts and Sciences
U A
ANTH 0589 I have assigned advisors for every student when you start the
program, rather than going to whoever got picked that semester. Limiting
students to 45 ANTH credits means you are able to take everything you want.
U C
ANTH 1431 Become more focused. *Get job info also.
U
BAAH 0431 I would have 2 semesters of laboratory experience in Biochem. The
Art History program is fine.
A U Q
BASA 1054 More advising, broader focus, availability of courses
P U
BCHM 0219 I would change my major if I were to do it all again. I don't
think a liberal education is stressed enough for science students.
U
BCHM 0924 I would reintegrate philosophy with the science. The social
ramifications and effects of science are incredibly significant, yet get almost
no attention in any departmental classes. I had to go outside the department
to be introduced to these issues. Most students do not make the effort.
H U Y
BCHM 1063 Allow more internship possibilities w/ credit transfer. Structure
- push students to take MCDB 3500 or genetics, a semester before or along w/
Biochemistry 1 & 2. Encourage students to take more Biology courses.
U
BFAS 0793 More focus on the student's particular areas, i.e. painting -
painting courses, that are five days a week, etc.
D U
BFAS 1117 Since I am a double-degree candidate, I will focus on my 2nd major,
Anthropology.
U M
CHEM 0396 I would include less "arts" classes & more chemistry classes in
order to change the major to a BS.
U A
CHEM 1524 Get rid of Stewart Strickler as the advisor for chemistry majors.
Get rid of some of the meaningless, time-wasting, stupifying, dumbed-down
core classes that I was required to take, such as AIST 2000, EMUS 1832, etc-
There has got to be a better way than those "lists" of core classes that
people can pick from. Basically what I am saying is that I would have
liked to earn a BS in chemistry and not a BA; that was not an option.
U
CLAS 0366 A more well-rounded program, not as many classes in one subject.
U
COMM 0447 Study more about body communication & speech pathology (although,
this is now a section in a different major).
U Q
COMM 0778 More upper division classes & earlier - I'm staying in extra
semester to fulfill upper division that is not in my major.
Q U
COMM 0977 Limitations of courses; total required hrs.
U A H
ECON 0153 1) Not allow ECON 1000 for majors. 2) Require discussion with an
advisor. 3) Require internship.
V U
ECON 0453 Less crappy lower division classes that really just repeat
themselves. More upper division classes that are more specific and more
applicable.
H U
ECON 0625 I felt that too much of it is not applicable. Too much theory
regarding "Ideal Conditions." These conditions never occur, so it'd be nice to
know what really happens (at least in relation to the "Ideal conditions." I
felt either overwhelmed or uninterested 80% of the time. Some classes need
"Majors only" restrictions. Environmental Econ (Econ 4545) is more than 75%
non-majors (from what I can tell). This causes information that is common
economic theory to be repeated ad nausium. I feel completely unchallenged in
this class, and would have really enjoyed something a little more challenging,
geared, say, towards Econ majors. Sorry, this is definitely more than one
thing, but these are important, I feel.
U
ECON 1437 Too broad. Should be able to specialize.
U D
ENGL 0564 Less requirements to take American, English & backgrounds of A & E
Literature. More focus on cultural, ethnic, gender, etc literature.
U Y
ENGL 1161 lower division courses were too slow and covered little ground.
Although some of my upper division courses were very challenging, they were (as
a result) much more interesting and engaging than lower division courses.
F U C H
ENGL 1242 I would require professors to spend more time preparing for classes
than on research. I would make the focus of the major be more specific (ie more
reqs.). I would provide employment counseling & internships.
D U
ENGL 1283 I would allow more choice in the English Lit. Degree. There are
way too many historical requirements! I would have liked to study many more
multi cultural authors, instead of mostly dead white guys. The topics (theory,
etc.) were good, but more choice needs to be allowed.
U
ENGL 1432 An option for specific content instruction or independent study
(e.g. American Lit or Native American Lit.).
U
ENGL 1477 Add more hours as electives because there are so many great English
classes but the maximum limits opportunities.
U
ENGL 1525 As an English major I found a lot of my classes lacking in History.
The history behind literature should be emphasized more.
U
ENVS 0021 More math less liberation
U M F C
ENVS 0068 Get rid of the 3 lab requirement, change name to Env. Science.
Track A may be a little broad, more interaction w/professors info networking
w/alumni about jobs.
U
ENVS 0167 I would require less labs for students who are fulfilling science
requirements & aren't in that major.
U
ENVS 0273 The major problem (while it also being the major asset -- next
question), is the interdisciplinary aspect of the major. The problem lies in
that with so many different departments included, the workload is inconsistent
and sporadic; especially when you leave the major sciences (geol, geog, epob, chem)
and head into other departments such as math, psci, etc. Regarding the change
needed here, I think it is well underway with the establishment of ENVS as a
more substantial program major. Even within the sciences, it can be opposite
ends of the work spectrum. As to the changes, I am honestly a bit vague when I
think of what should may be done to help. But I do think that is being loooked
into by Carol Watson (who is fantastic), the ENVS club, Jim White and others.
M U A Z H
ENVS 0467 ENVS needs more direction. The courses need to build on each other,
becoming more specific. As of now, we just take a variety of unrelated classes.
The science specialization needs to be more techinical. Labs and projects are
necessary to supplement the lecture, such that theories may be applied. To the
water specialization, water and atmospheric chemistry classes should be added.
I think the program should contain a mixture of technical and theoretical
classes where the technical programming is modeled after the Environmental
Engineering program. ENVS desparately needs more staff. Carol Watson is
currently running a program of over 600 students. How can the university claim
it provides quality education when 600 students have to share 1 advisor who also
does all administrative work? My second major is chemistry. This department
is in dire need of new advisors. Dr. Strickler not only discourages students
from involvement in faculty research, but he misadvises. His inaccurate advice
caused me to stay an extra semester. Chemistry should assign about 20 students
to a faculty advisor. Dr. Strickler never knew my name, even after visiting
him 7 times. Something as small as remembering student's names helps students
feel as if they aren't lost or simply a number in this institute.
U
ENVS 0507 more upper division hard science, physics especially
U Y
ENVS 0567 I was dissappointed that most of the courses in my major were very
broad and much of the material overlapped. I would have benefitted more from a
series of courses which each had a specific goal or focal issue. My courses
have never addressed one issue with enough depth to fully understand all the
factors which must be accounted for in solving environmenal issues.
U
ENVS 0966 The core here is ridiculous. I transferred from Auburn, U., in Al,
and was appalled to learn that although I had completed all of the core at that
institution, I was still required to take a full year of core courses here.
U
ENVS 1190 More focus in an area of study is essential. ENVS is a good
program, but way too broad.
U
ENVS 1394 The requirements for classes for my major. I feel there were
entirely too many classes that didn't help me with what I want to do that I was
forced to take for my degree.
U Y
ENVS 1421 I would have more specific classes. The ones that I have taken have
encompassed too many problems. The classes need to be more focused and
encompass only one or two problems, not several.
U
ENVS 1558 Make it a little more specialized. It's too broad right now. I'd
cut down the science sequence requirements for the policy track.
U
EPOB 0424 I would take evolution off of the list of classes that must be
taken.
U
EPOB 0555 I ended up with a miximun number of credits in my department. My
final semester at CU is fille diwth classes NOT in my major. I wasn't aware
that I could actually take TOO MANY classes in my major. I think the CORE
requirements achieved the goal of making me a well rounded student. I will now
take the biology GRE's during a semester when I am not taking any biology.
That is not something I approve of. I worked hard ot fufill my core
requirements so I could focus on my major, and now I am forced to not focus on
my major during my last semester.
U
EPOB 0998 Requirement to take plant classes and ecology especially if that is
not at all what you are interested in. You're not going to do well if you are
not interested in it.
U
EPOB 1163 Put in speacialized tracks like Environmental Studies has for their
majors.
U
EPOB 1414 That there are less required and more elective courses in the major
so I could be more specialized.
U
EPOB 1564 More specifics - have a better idea of what you can do w/the degree.
Classes are so broad.
U
EPOB 1579 I would drop evolution as a requirement for EPOB. I feel I did not
learn anything important in this class. We learn all the important aspects of
evolution in all other EPOB classes.
Y M U
GEOG 0615 Geography - It is far too generalized. The teachers need to be more
specific and my biggest change would be to add a hydrology track into the
program as opposed to having only a few classes.
U
GEOG 1555 Less human geog. requirements.
U
GEOL 1064 Drop physics, Calc., Chem. requirements or at least change then
somehow - average GPA in these classes for geology majors is about a 2.0.
U
GEOL 1449 More structure - tell me exactly what to take and in what order.
U
GRMN 0571 get rid of one of the grammar courses, 1 full year of grammar was
too much.
U
GRMN 1215 The restriction of non-graduating seniors to take the capstone
seminar in the fall semester if they aren't graduating in the spring. It would
have been better for my schedule to take care of that requirement last semester.
U Y
HIST 0237 1) Direction on specialization/focus. We take 2 courses more than
any other and ridiculously call it an area of specialization? 2) Help in
retaining all of these facts. There has to be a way to implement long term
memory as opposed to short term learning to pass a test.
M A U
HUMN 0323 I appreciate the fact that the Humanities major is relatively open,
but it has also been difficult to pinpoint what the actual requirements are to
graduate. Since I am a non-traditional student, I've had a hard time
understanding the "College List" requirements. I've gotten several different
answers and I'm sure when I try to graduate, someone will be giving me another
answer.
U M
IAFS 0594 The way the scheduling worked for abroad students and the
internship program
H U
IAFS 0775 Create more flexibility & incorporate more practical "real world"
projects/assignments.
Q U
IAFS 1017 Integration of required computer courses - more than learning
e-mail etc., but programs and systems helpful to the major and for future
employment in any white-coller job. I would also offer a wider variety of
courses to choose from whithin a semester for required areas.
F U
IAFS 1032 The Political Geography requirement. Either there should be course
options or professorial changes - John O'Laughlin taught the class miserably
and it was a waste of my time and money.
V U
IAFS 1386 Wider selection of classes. Fewer # of required credit hours.
U
IAFS 1526 We are required to take two upper division classes in our selected
language, this forces us to take a plethora of lower division language classes
(5 credits) that go towards nothing. There is no Spanish minor so those
credits are simply taking time away from the many other classes that are
required for International Affairs. Among these are the area of concentration
credits that eat up the possibility of electives. I love this major but feel
that unless you were on perfect track from the beginning it is incredibly hard
to finish in four years.
V U
IAFS 1610 Add more business courses & another year of language.
U
KINE 0360 The lower division courses. I would also change the recitations.
Some of them are really pointless and a waste of time.
U
KINE 1178 Focus more on Kines & Physiology rather than Physics & Calculus.
A U
KINE 1313 -Better advising. -More specified classes. -More in-depth courses.
U
KINE 1392 Less core classes so that you could get into the major material
earlier.
U M
KINE 1585 -Make mechanical Kines. and elective and not a core requirement.
Make our degree a bachelor of science degree & not of arts degree. -Change
name of degree to Applied Physiology. -Don't have so many 5 unit courses.
U
LING 0832 The qualifications for learning a natural language in the LING
major.
U A
MCDB 0959 Non-traditional students should have more leniency in their course
work at CU. I would have liked to have taken more classes in my major without
having to take 4 semesters of English lit. I am a single parent, working full
time and felt some of my time wasted in classes not pertaining to my degree.
You also need someone other than Dr. Ham in as the advisor. He tries hard,
but he is not adequate.
F U
MCDB 1058 The Organic Chemistry requirement - or get rid of the uptight,
rude, genius- yet - don't - teach - worth - a damn, professors that feel it is
their personal responsibility to "weed" students out.
U
PHIL 1260 More diversity in application of philosophy - too much emphasis on
logic & structure and not enough emphasis on ideas.
D U
PHIL 1470 I would integrate more Eastern & Continental philosophy. As it is
now, there is only western, analytic thought being taught. It is very close
minded that way.
U
PRJR 0777 Rigid sequence.
U
PRNU 0020 Get rid of all core courses that doesn't apply to the field I'm
studying.
H U
PSCI 0226 Internship seminars are worthless, political theory is useless,
UWRP is the worst joke of a class. Sorry, that's three things.
U H
PSCI 0607 I think there are too many required upper division/lower division
political science classes that emphasize theories & concepts that are
inapplicable to real life.
U V
PSYC 0538 -The intense science oriented course that I had to take that
weren't directly related to exactly what I wanted to do. ie. (Behavioral
Genetics, Psychology of Perception) -Very repetitive, -Not a lot of classes
offered in the newest areas of psychological studies.
U
PSYC 0652 More science based, maybe a general Bio-chem class.
U
PSYC 1007 More specific areas of study. Psychology is a huge major and it
would be more useful if students were offered more specific courses in their
area of interest. For example, marriage & family therapy.
Q U
PSYC 1434 Have separate tracks for neuropsychology and general/clinical
psychology. Make core requirements classes AVAILABLE during registration! I had
such a hard time being admitted; I'm an older student, and I'm doing very well,
but you would have thought the admissions office was doing me a HUGE favor by
considering me for admission. If you would like for me to elaborate, I'd be
happy to speak to someone in person.
U
SOCI 0069 The degree requirements changed - it was confusing.
U
SOCI 0545 Not to require Research Methods 1, 2 or 3.
U
SOCI 0667 The emphasis on petty bullshit required.
U
SOCI 0686 No Stats class
A U
SOCI 1194 The poor advising and the number of required methods classes.
U
SOCI 1287 The three required research classes are repetitive & a waste of time.
U
SOCI 1482 Many unncessary requirments! They are though in the process of
changing some of the r requirements...
--Business and Administration
U
ACCT 0022 Intergate more Math and research/Writing classes.
U
ACCT 0249 Change the 2 credit acct. classes back to 3.
U
ACCT 1102 Requiring more accounting classes to graduate.
A U
ACCT 1140 I would make the requirements easier to understand, and make sure
all of the people helping you in the office advising you of which classes to
take know what they are.
U H
ACCT BBB3 Less accounting classes, broaden skills. Too much emphasis on the
CPA exam.
U
BUUD 0162 I think the BCOR program is less effective than separate classes.
U
FNCE 0282 Eliminate the BCOR classes that are a pre-requisite for the
business program.
U
FNCE 1026 Change Financial Markets & Institutions class curriculum -
Integrate more Info Systems.
U
FNCE 1048 Not so many Arts & Science electives.
U
FNCE 1492 Require more classes in Finance and less in general core.
U
MKTG 0116 More specialized courses.
U
MKTG 0610 The possibility in finishing it in 2 semesters.
U
MKTG 0684 That I wouldn't have to take all of my major classes the last
semester.
A U
MKTG 0942 I would encourage advisors to let the students know about the
importance of starting your major classes at the beginning of our junior years.
I found myself having a hard time meeting the pre-requisites for my major
classes. Better organization.
U Y
MKTG 0945 The core course required for a business degree. Many are pointless
and not worth while. I.E. BCOR2150, 1100 take more INFS courses.
U
MKTG 1303 Some of the courses in the sequence are useless. I didn't learn
anything from most of the Business Core classes- I almost feel like they were a
waste of time, but for some students who don't know exactly what major they
want, I think they might be helpful.
U
MKTG 1341 The BCOR courses.
U M
MKTG 1345 I was involved during the change from old to new B-School
curriculum. It was a huge hassle. The students shouldn't have to struggle to
know what they need. It started to get better, but I'd want it clearer.
U
XXXX 0292 I would offer a stricter way of getting the major (more hours 21-30
instead of 12), and more classes that are interesting.
U
XXXX 1069 I feel like the curriculum has changed over & over again. CU must
learn to stay with one program for more than 2 years. It has been way
too confusing for me learning I need to take this class, not that one, etc.
--Engineering and Applied Science
U H
AREN 0101 1) Decrease the course load, so I would be able to have a more
productive semester. 2) Somehow, get proficionals working to come and provide
seminars on the real world problems.
U H
AREN 0215 The early "weed-out" courses in my major (the Calc, physics,
etc.) were very impersonal and hard to justify in terms of the amount of
theory (too much) versus practical methods. (lost along the way)
U
AREN 0534 Concentrate in one field.
U
AREN 0612 More design! We are taught so much engineering, aesthetic design is
largely ignored. "Architect" of our degree is a very loose term!
U
AREN 0844 To allow students more freedom for technical electives and
specialized courses that relate more to their specialized major, and dropping
some of the classes that are a waste of time & money for certain majors.
U
ASEN 0054 More options for core classes.
U
ASEN 0691 Prop systems as a requirement.
M Q U
ASEN 0748 Fewer restrictions on elective choices; more selections offered in
the spring; eliminating certain classes (ie Experimental Physics, Systems)
H U
ASEN 0987 Apply theories to real life applications. Early in my college
career I didn't see any point to what I was doing. I still question some
things, such as learning Fortran, Phys. III, etc.
U
ASEN 1234 Allow more private study by the student on their own. Don't
try to force students into a "pattern" or model to suit the schools needs.
Have every student focus on their needs.
U
CHEN 1550 -More flexibility in course scheduling. -More credit for lab
courses.
U
CSEN 0064 There was a little confusion about courses that were discontinued
but still counted toward graduation. Get rid of that confusion.
U
CSEN 0129 PERHAPS THAT THE MATERIAL WERE EASIER!?
U
CSEN 0140 I would integrate the courses better so that the student could
build upon skills learned in lower-level courses.
U V
CVEN 0003 Scheduling, lack of courses
M U
CVEN 0042 I think engineering is a tough program. I think there should be a
program for 5-6 years in which you receive a masters degree automatically.
U
CVEN 1094 More emphasis on the humanities & writing.
U
ECEN 1277 The curriculum would provide for more electives. Only 18 hours?
That's not a very broad curriculum. I'm sure there are a few classes
unnecessary but required for graduation, that could be changed for electives.
Y U
EEEN 0029 Some of the classes. For example, probability seemed useless. It
got very abstract in the end and I'll never use it. I also didn't like being
forced to take theory courses from different fields (such as optics,
communications...). I'm interested in communications and would have liked to
take all of these with out being forced to take classes which fullfilled other
requiremnents. There were some really good teachers as well. These include
Etter, Hinton, and Lightner, to name a few.
U V
EEEN 0248 More options not as structured.
U
EEEN 0275 Less repetition of material in core classes. Make them more
efficient, less wasteful overlap.
U
EEEN 0474 The engineering science requirement.
U V
EEEN 0523 Less stringent, with more options for pursuing the type of
engineering one wants to learn. Essentially, more upper-level specialization
courses such as in optics, solid state physics, communication,...
Y U
EEEN 0910 Take out writing courses or history electives! And busy work in
the labs!
U H
EEEN 1529 More classes that are practical and fewer classes that are
theoretical. Get rid of some of the uneccesary classes such as Chemistry.
U H
MCEN 0122 I will provide more technical election to choose. More lab
experience will be great too.
H U
MCEN 0183 -Apply more hands- on in some of the technical courses. -Require
to take ms engineering as the 3D modeling instead of anything else.
H U
MCEN 0450 Add more design related labs throughout the entire curriculum, not
just during the senior year.
U
MCEN 0480 Have more of a time to choose what type of Engineer I want to be.
U
MCEN 0576 I would not wast my time learning things that I won't use in my
future. For instance, all of the humanities I took were a waste of time. I
could have graduated earlier if I did not have to take so many hours of
humanities. Also, I had to learn archaic forms of computer aided drafting and
programming - what a wast of my time and money.
U
MCEN 0995 It was too structured on required courses, not a large enough
opportunity to diversify in Humanities. (note: Stanford University has the
same core for all colleges (Eng + A & S)
U
MCEN 1453 I would like to see engineers receiving a more broad educational
experience. Most engineers I look at have very little knowledge when it comes
to topics other than science and technology. This is probably due mainly to
the rigorous study program required in our major. Therefore, I think that more
emphasis should be placed on giving students a chance to explore other courses
of study throughout their time in school here rather than being stuck in the
engineering center during their last two years of college.
--Architecture and Planning
E U Y
ARCH 0194 Core classes should be updated every few years. Social factors has
information that is outdated (20 years+) The majority of the information in
this class was irrelevant because it is so old. Our core requirements need to
be re-evaluated. Some of the classes were almost complete repeats. -Other
classes that are electives now, could become required instead.
U V
ARCH 0283 Add a few more classes that deal solely with art. I desired more
artistic expression within my major, but found only technical courses.
U
ARCH 0635 The time we spend in studio during finals!
U F Y
PLAN 0175 Structure of the program - Introductory level classes/theories in
planning & profs. actually teaching an entire class, not just students on an
individual basis.
M F U E N
PLAN 1332 more consistency in grading, scheduling, requirements more
attention paid to planning majors instead of just architecture majors as the
major grows more communication among faculty members reasses required classes
the program shouldn't let as many slackers glide through as they do, be
stricter in rules and requirements keep inventory of past projects left in the
building and contact students who have projects left behind
--Journalism and Mass Communication
U
ADVT 0024 The core requirements.
U
ADVT 0061 The required "mini-minor" - it's a complete waste of time and money.
I hate it.
U
ADVT 0721 Allow students to take more journalism electives or double major in
the J-School.
U
ADVT 0879 I would require more classes in the J-School.
U
ADVT 1204 more emphasis on computer art earlier in the major.
U
MDST 0232 Mass media studies is a broad major by nature, but I feel students
should be able to personalize the course of study & dive into the other
J-School sequences to narrow their focus.
U C
NSED 0051 Be able to take more classes in my major and I would like to have
know about internships sooner.
U M
NSED 0452 Be allowed to take more journalism courses, maybe even a double
major.
U H
NSED 1010 Emphasis in news-ed is all on newspaper writing. There are so many
other kinds of writing styles. I want to write for a magazine & have no
background on that industry. Moreover, I really dislike newspapers, but that's
what I was stuck with all 4 yrs.
--Music
U
MUSA 0008 More opportunities for electives.
U
MUSA 0558 Allow people to structure their Bachelor of Arts in Music more
individually.
M U
MUSC 0458 I would make the convocation requirement apply to student recitals;
this would generate attendance. Also, I would institute a degree for jazz
studies. Professors are worried that their best players would not participate
in orchestra and band if there was a jazz program, so make it mandatory for
jazz students to participate.
U
MUSE 1046 More education programs freshman year (esp. Into. to Music
Education).
U
MUSE 1066 Too many education classes with non-music majors. Prosem I, II, Ed.
Psych, and very much a wast of time for music students.
COURSES (eg, AVAILABILITY, SIZE)
--Arts and Sciences
V N M
AMST 0132 There are many things I love about my major, however, I wish more
courses were offered in "American Studies" rather than having to take my
courses in other disciplines. Things are improving. They did add an American
Studies critical thinking class. Unfortunately, too late for my tenure. I
hope, eventually, more students are attracted to American Studies and we get a
department. It was too bad that the American Studies club never got off the
ground. If I could do it all over again, I would have tried harder and took a
leadership role in recruiting, promoting, and developing student/faculity and
student/student relationships outside of class (ie. AMST club).
Z
ANTH 0082 Smaller classes to promote class interaction
V F
ANTH 0621 The Anthropology Department needs more courses as Physical
Anthropology and professors that can teach them well.
Q
ANTH 0725 Classes for major be more readily available.
Z H V
ANTH 0881 Smaller introductory classes, more labs, more courses.
Q
BAAH 1212 The studio classes would be easily accessible to juniors and
seniors instead of only freshmen/sophomores.
Z
BCHM 0440 I would have liked to have some of the lower division science
classes smaller. It was difficult to get involved in classes with 300-500
people (bio,cell bio, genetics)
Y
BCHM 1335 Make P.Chem w/biochemical applications more intensive.
Y
BCHM 1364 Make Bioochemistry 1 and 2 more applicable to positive body health
changes.
Y
CHEM 0475 The organic and biochemistry classes focus way too much on the
amount of material to be learned, instead of actually trying to apply it or
relate it to anything else.
Y
CHIN 1049 In a language program such as Chinese, it becomes very frustrating
to be put in classes w/ 1) native speakers & 2) w/students who have spent time
in China for over 6 months.

COMM 0223 Some of the material can be redundant, I would like to see a little

ECON 1448 We need better advising, a wider range of classes to choose from,
more real-world application of course work, more office hours of professors, a
better lounge.

ECON 1483 -Broader variety in courses offered. -More counseling available
with information & help.
V
ENGL 0482 I would add more classes on critical theory, specifically district
theories: feminist theory, queer theory, structuralism.
Y
ENGL 0756 More emphasis on grammar skills, more structure. -Too much
repetition -all classes were read, discuss, paper.
Z H N Y
ENGL 1161 A lot more time for upper division work and less for lower - many
of my
F V
ENGL 1238 1. The profs would be better disciplined about giving out the
course description before registration. 2. Switch up the selections for
courses.
Y F
ENGL 1495 The English professors need to be more rigorous about grammar, and
less on idea formation. There is also a problem w/grade elevation.
Y
ENVS 0031 Unfortunately I understand that I have some ability to do that with
my own course selection in my upper-division studies. It would just be nice if
I really knew what courses in the upper-division were critical for my career life.
V
ENVS 1428 Increase the course selection in the specialty area of "water".
F Y
EPOB 0848 1) More faculty interaction in labs. 2) I would re-write the Gen.
Bio lab manual. It is very poorly constructed.
Q
EPOB 0882 Some of the courses that I would like to take are only offered once
every other year! ie. EPOB 4270
D V
ETHN 0873 More faculty of color!!! Contributing to more course choices.
V N T
FMST 0345 I would like to see more classes offered (I don't think there is
enough faculty in the film department). More and better editing machines.
Less cost to major in film production.
F V
FMST 0565 We need more trained faculty to open a wider variety of classes.
V
FREN 1268 I would like to see a wider variety of courses offered in the
French department. I think it would be great to have more courses in French
that are not literature. For example, History, Art History, etc.
Y
FREN 1406 I would make the classes completely discussion oriented. It's
ridiculous to me that in a language class you could have a professor lecture,
especially a literature class.
Q
GEOL 1015 More flexible times for computer oriented classes - I couldn't take
remote sensity because of schedule conflicts that could have been resolved had
there been more times offered.
Q
HIST 0105 Change times on 3000-level seminar. They're all in the afternoon &
I work 3:30 to midnight so I can't attend.
V
HIST 0182 Better selection of courses.
Y
HIST 0209 -More analyzing in class, rather than just recapping events.
Z Y A
HIST 0218 Classes are too large. I would offer a UWRP type class in the
Hist. dept. It is extremely important to be able to discuss/defend historical
events. Better counseling, I received no personal attention from History Dept.
Q
HIST 0317 More selection of courses offered during a semester.
V
HIST 0510 I understand that most history majors concentrate on American
history, but I think that there should be more courses offered outsde this area
in order to fulfil requirements and interest
V
HIST 0937 Add Irish History courses!
Q C
HIST 1020 More availability of specialized courses (ie. Alexander the
Great...) More career oriented meetings.
F S V
HIST 1037 The lower division survey courses would have turned me off of
History if I'd have taken them earlier in my college carreer. In the ones I
took neither the students nor the professors acted like the wanted to be there,
and the information was very rushed and superficial. I could have used more
classes devoted to research and to writing, as well as to various theories of
historiography. I spent a lot of time wondering why I'd chosen the major I
had, and only really remembered why I liked History during some great upper
division classes, and while beginning an honors thesis.
V
HUMN 1301 More classes offered in more diverse, less ordinary subjects. A
course about someone I haven't heard of has never been offered.
V
IAFS 0350 More Intl. business courses for non-business majors.
V
IAFS 0986 I would like to see a wider range of courses offered to complete
the 8 categories Also, more flexibility. For example, international finance
will never benefit me in my particular path, so I would like to see a broader
range of courses offered to complete that portion of the major.
Y
IAFS 1077 Take out Political Geography.
V
IAFS 1314 I am a IAFS/GRMN major and must say of the German department that
the course selection is absolutely pathetic. A look through the course catalog
shows the pitiful selection of courses German majors have to choose from in
comparison to other language majors.
Q
IAFS 1598 More class availability. More class options in fall/spring &
summer.
Y F M
KINE 0344 I really liked Kine. as a major, however, some courses ex. KINE3420
(Nutrition & Perf) were extremely out of date. I thought the professor should
have spent more time bringing topics up to date. Poor preparation. Also, why
isn't nutrition a major at C.U.? it just seems that C.U. is the perfect
environment for these types of majors.
F V Y
KINE 0841 i would place more emphasis on other aspects of kinesiology, not
just the theraputic aspect of it....it wasn't until i was a senior that i knew
what i wanted to do w/ a kines major, and the idea had never been put across as
an option w/ the degree. i think the degree concentrates mainly on the
professional schools and gets us ready for a career in the professional,
theraputic field, but there is a lot more to do w/ a kines degree. also, in
the EPOB physiology lab, (a required class) i think some of the procedures we
perform (ie; open heart surgery on a rat) can be sensitive to the individual.
some may not feel comfortable performing the experiment. i think one way to
handle this would be to make sure the TAs who will be supervising are
knowledgable enough to handle questions and to perform the procedure CORRECTLY-
-this may ease the uncomfortable feeling of knowing that an animal died by our
control and that the animal didn't die needlessly. (from a personal experience,
our TA had not a clue.)
Z Q
KINE 0900 More classes need to be offered--nutrition (more than just one
class) athletic injuries. and the class size needs to be smaller!!
V
KINE 0985 I wish I could have taken more specialized classes. For example a
physical therapy class.
V
KINE 1087 I would like more courses based in movement physiology.
Z
KINE 1211 Smaller classes so individual students receive more attention as
well as class interaction.
V H
KINE 1224 I would like to have a greater selection of classes and more
hands-on type classes. (such as a whole class about reading on ERG).
H V
KINE 1328 Emphasize research more. Include more demanding out of department
classes (e.g. CHEM 3311/3331)
V
MATH 0765 The math department does a great job of offering required courses,
many of which are courses which introduce a specific subdiscipline.
Unfortunately, they seldom offer higher-level or follow-up classes in any
subdiscipline. For instance, I loved my Abstract Algebra 1 class, so much so
that I wanted to Abstract Algebra 2. But in the three semesters since I took
Algebra 1, the department hasn't offered Algebra 2. I think there are many
students who would enjoy focusing on some specific subdiscipline, but who end
up frusterated when the department doesn't offer follow-up courses in that
subdiscipline.
V Z
MCDB 0591 A wider variety of elective courses. Smaller class sizes for
required courses, maybe in the off semester. Allow for a some electives to be
taken in the EPOB department, ie. anatomy (this is especially important for
premed students). Also a computer class should be a requirement, similar to the
Business school's B. core computer class. In the field of biology the use of
Excel is extremely important, along with Microsoft Word, and Powerpoint. More
hands on experience in labs.
Y
MCDB 0658 Less pathetic lab. courses.
Y
MCDB 1325 Cell Biology (MCDB 3120) would be a 2 semester course.
Q
MCDB 1385 Make different upper division courses more available to juniors.
V
PHIL 0049 I would want the department to offer more Eastern philosophy. As
it is now, the CU philosophy department ignores (and in doing so, seemingly
invalidates) Eastern philsophy.
Y
PHIL 0738 Courses are too much history and not enough discussion about
student's ideas.
Z
PHIL 0772 I would have decided on my major earlier, so I could take fewer
lower division and more upper division classes. If I could change one thing, it
would be to offer smaller class sizes for some of the upper division required
classes, like epistemology.
Y
PHIL 1582 Find a better way to teach the logic Class. I know it is important,
but it is also impossible to learn.
V
PSCI 0078 more course offerings!
V
PSCI 0994 I would allow for broader topics--not so muxh emphasis on American
politics--we are not the center of the world
V
PSCI 1210 I would have more classes on current political issue and regions of
importance. We h ave nothing on Asia and only 2 courses in Latin America.
A Z H
PSYC 0096 More advisors, smaller classes, more hands-on.
Z
PSYC 0552 Smaller classes.
H V F
PSYC 0701 Not so research oriented. And, in the heart of Boulder, I would
have more "human" psychology courses. By that, I guess I mean much more varied
theoretical approaches. Also, I'd have some professors who don't just have
positions b/c of their research value.
V
PSYC 0909 More varied areas of interest would be available.
Q F
PSYC 1073 The course selection and some teachers.
Q F
PSYC 1166 More options for classes, higher teacher:student ratio. (Don't
know how plausible these are, though)
Q Z
PSYC 1338 More classes, smaller class size. -Make more specialized areas of
emphasis.
Y
PSYC 1405 More focus on universal approaches. More focus on people.
Z H
PSYC 1435 I think that I would change the size of many of the classes (even
upper division). There does not seem to be a very applicable base-line that I
could take out into the "real world".
Z H N Y
RLST 0050 Smaller, more teacher/student contact on a one on one basis.
Greater hands-on experience with the material. More application of material in
conversations and homework. Notes on web. Less lecture. More group work.
V
RLST 0797 More diversity of courses in the Eastern religions.
Q
RUSS 1512 More availability of classes.
V F
SOCI 0195 More classes, more classes taught by actual professors - not
graduate students.
Q
SOCI 0682 Easier access to required courses.
V
SOCI 1377 The Sociology department needs more classes offerred, both required
and electives. It's very difficult to enroll in the classes you need and meet
degree requirements.
V
SOCI 1403 More variety of classes
Y
SOCI 1445 SOCY - more emphasis on the power members of society have to
influence/change society (we are not helpless pawns). PSYC - less emphasis on
research (at least quantitative), more on subjective human experience and
interpersonal relationships.
V
SPAN 1175 More conversation courses in the upper level classes.
Q
SPPR 0961 It would really help me if most of the classes were offered both
semesters as opposed to having to stay for a full year to take a required
sequence course
Y
XXXX 1452 contiinued strong conversational emphasis in all classes, classes
should contnue to be demanding
--Business and Administration
Q M
ACCT 0334 I would like to change the timing of courses within my major
program. Many of the courses that I needed to graduate were all being taught
at the same time which gave me no flexibility to make my schedule. The
business school made it really hard for students that started college before
they made changes to the curriculum and structure of the school's classes. For
example, I need only 12 credits to graduate this semester and the business
school made certain courses 2 credits and 3 of them worth 3 credits. There was
no way to make 12 credits exactly, so 20 other students and I had to go to the
school to ask how we could get 1 more credit and not have to take an extra
course. he problem was resolved, but only after so many people had to complain.
Another example is when the school decided to merge its courses. They did not
provide enough classes to accommodate the amount of people that needed to take
the course, after they announced it would be the last time they were going to
offer the course. The business school needs to use a little more common sense
to avoid these dilemas and put themselves in the position of the students when
they are going to make such drastic changes.
A Q Z M
ACCT 0368 More business focus - less out of business classes. The advising
was horrendous!! I liked one advisor in 4 years, Dr. Winey in MCDB. I would
also change course availability (but I think that's being done) where all MCDB
courses are offered each semester. Smaller Intro courses & "UPGRADE DEGREE TO
B.S.!!
V
ACCT 0932 A course designed to help with the CPA examination.
Q N
ACCT 0967 Availability of some classes - some not offered in the semester in
which I needed to take them. Also, availability of computers in the Business
School - a major problem given increasing reliance on internet class notes, etc.
A Y
ACCT 1412 Take better math classes that would prepare me for the future
better. I feel like (and I'm not the only one) math mods do a very poor job of
preparing you for upper division finance and accounting courses!! I wish an
advisor would of told me to take calculus or other math classes my Fresh. +
Soph. year.
V Q
FNCE 0419 I WOULD OFFER MORE DIVERSE FINANCE CLASSES AND ALLOW THEM TO BE
TAKEN EARLIER.
V
FNCE 0457 Offer more finance classes.
Y
FNCE 0477 Less group projects, there are just too many people who don't pull
there part and take way to long to do anything!!!!!!!!
M V
FNCE 0643 1) Make it more difficult to get into the Business School. 2) More
choices for classes w/in my major.
V F
FNCE 0695 Offer more than 3 finance courses my senior year Higher quality
teaching in my first 3 years of college
Y
FNCE 1266 Teach the basics first, not the formulas but the language/ basic
principals
Q
FNCE 1334 more option in choosing available classes
V
FNCE 1347 more classes to choose from
M Y H
FNCE 1581 An emphasis on the application of technical skills more directly to
practical situations. -Case studies. -Macro-level overview.
V
INFS 0214 Possibly some SAP intro classes, or a course that is a preview of
different products.
V
INFS 0306 A general class on Unix would be a good addition
Y
INFS 0463 Systems Analysts & Design sequence (2 classes) was nearly useless.
Restructure those 2 classes.
H Y
INFS 0470 more practical/technical course work less "groupwork"
Y
INFS 0693 Computer Technology
V M H
INFS 0823 A more variety of classes to choose from. Make it easier to get a
double major in business. Make project assignment relate more to the real
world application. We do so many projects, but I don't get much real world
experience out of most of them.
Y
INFS 1029 Human resource management.
A F Y
INFS 1183 Increase the technical requirements like programming or computer
science
Y
INFS 1535 I would increase the difficulty of some of the lower division
courses. Despite having some challenging upper division courses, it is still
possible for someone to get a degree without really knowing what they are doing.
V
MGMT 0503 Offer more org. management classes!
Y
MGMT 0996 More focus on specifics in small comp.
H Z
MGMT 1231 I'd like the classes to be more hands-on or to hear more about real-
life experiences from outside company representatives vs. continual lecture of
theory. Class sizes are too large for optimal learning and interaction; at
times it is easy to feel like just another number.
V
MKTG 0156 I would have liked it if there were more classes in my major
offered. The Business School change-over screwed me up.
V
MKTG 0267 More classes to choose from in Marketing.
V
MKTG 0616 More variety in course topics.
Q
MKTG 0818 I was disappointed that the one class (Product Strategy)
that I have looked forward to taking since entering the university was not
offered the semester I was eligible to take it and could fit into my schedule.
Overall, I think the variety of courses offered is pretty good, advertising,
service mktg, marketing analysis, sales, etc is a fairly good mix and a
positive aspect of the program. I would like to see even more classes offered,
perhaps more strategic classes. Also, the profs seem to have a fairly high turn
over rate. It is hard to get to know someone and retain them as a reference
source/knowledge base when they are constantly moving around.
V
MKTG 0842 More classes would be offered.
Z Y
MKTG 1122 Smaller classes. Less multiple choice tests.
Q
MKTG 1311 More seminar options.
Z
MKTG 1496 The lower level business classes are too large.
--Engineering and Applied Science
Y
AREN 0653 I would change the electrical engineering course for non majors to
something that is relevant to us in the real world of civil, mech, and
architectural engineering.
F Y
AREN 1023 Every semester it seems that the professors rush at the end to
complete some lofty syllabus. This forces the student to struggle to keep up.
I think there should b e some kind of policy against this.
V
ASEN 0325 Make available more programs in propulsion.
Q Z
CHEN 0205 Classes (required) are offered only every other semester - should
be offered every semester for more flexibility and have smaller upper-division
classes.
V
CHEN 0371 More classes/choices in the emphasis I'm studying - ie more tech
electives and non-required classes
Y
CSEN 0005 Emphasize more theory rather than giving practical projects where
the theory is simple, but the application takes a long time to implement.
(I've often told people "I've been so busy doing homework that I don't have
time to learn anything.".)
V
CSEN 0035 More CS courses.
Y F
CSEN 0036 1) More structure - more professors should lay out requirements of
assignments clearly. 2) Some classes were ridiculously time consuming
(requiring around 20 hours/week). those professors should take FCQ's that
indicate too high a workload more seriously.
Q
CSEN 0570 Availability of courses.
F Q V
CSEN 0630 More professors! The enrollment in Computer Science doubled in the
last two years but professors have not been hired to cover this increase.
Because of that, I had a graduate student (!) teaching an upper-level class in
my major. He had never taught before and did not grade fair, answer students
questions, or treat us as adults sometimes. That is completely unacceptable!
If the department had more professors, there would have been an accredited,
trained professor teaching the class. Also, there is usually only a limited
number of sections available for most CS classes and only one professor
teaching them all. It would be nice to have some selection about which
professor we can take any particular class under. I have always gotten the
worst professors, but I have not had an option since the are only taught by one
professor for several semesters in a row. Many CS elective classes aren't
offered every semester because there is nobody to teach them, also. Give us
more elective classes!
H V
CSEN 0737 There might be more classes on some hot topics in Computer Science.
A lot of people are looking for people with experience in windows programming,
for example, but there was never a class on it.
V C
CSEN 0897 More classes that deal with how to use Unix. -Classes that give an
idea of what kind of careers are available in the field of C.S.
F Y
CSEN 1443 Hah. Only one? Make the teachers care more and the classes harder.
Y
EEEN 0803 The way courses are taught. Approaching engineering from a micro
level...bad idea.
Y
EEEN 1415 Make the weed out classes more interesting. Vs when I complete
these classes I didn't learn anything and I don't care.
Y
EEEN BBB1 More time per course.
F Y
MCEN 0704 Mechanical component. - class - professor.

hypocracies between the thought in the field and the actions taken by
professors Raise the upper limit on the number of hours applicable to the
degree within a major to 60. I would like to receive more recognition for my
majors. I have a quadruple major and I will only receive one diploma; this is
very discouraging to me. I feel that I have earned a diploma for each of my
majors. I have done the necessary work and paid my tuition, why can't I have a
diploma for each of my majors. The ECEN major program should have more of the
CS classes. The program should also include more management classes.
Specifically how to manage software development processes. Should have s
classes in Software Engineering instead of just programming.

BASA 0963 Make it more practical with real-world info, particularly regarding
careers in fine arts after graduation, without a masters or Ph.D. Better
equipment in the studios and fine arts labs, including the photo lab, mural
lab and slide rooms.
F H
BCHM 0019 Remind teachers that after graduation, it's important to apply
knowledge, not to memorize everything.
H
BCHM 0650 I would allow students to become more acquainted with on-going
research on the campus.
H
CHEM 1246 More instruction in conversational Japanese.
H
COMM 0383 Focus more on application of knowledge, practical training.
H
COMM 0411 A requirement to learn more about computers as the necessity for
this knowledge is growing in the work world.
H
COMM 0849 THE comm. Department needs to calm down with making us do group
projects. Last semester I had about 20 for four classes. I could barely keep
up and I did more fighting than work. I want to be judged for my work, not
from a group.
H
COMM 1450 I wish my major would have more information about what is going on
now around the world (current events) and spend less time on trying to make us
think a certain way about different cultures.
H
ECON 0188 More application to real world careers. How can one use an
economics major in the real world, what is end result of figures more real
world application, analysis & results.
H
ECON 0740 More practical courses for non PhD., Masters, etc. students who are
going to work after bachelors.
F H
ECON 0830 Some of the Econ. Profs. are a little hard to understand - language
barrier - and a little dry. Some of the courses could be taught w/more
enthusiasm & real life applications.
H
ENGL 1060 The English Department might want to concentrate on building a
strong internship program and assisting its students by locating practical
internships & experiences for them.
M F H
ENGL 1179 I think the English Literature program is way too easy. Teachers
do not challenge students enough. Also, there is an absolute lack of writing
instruction which I expected to receive as part of my major! Most profs. do
not hold high standards for writing.
H
ENVS 0913 I would make it more specialized in certain areas to get more
specific experience & hands-on work.
H A
ENVS 1197 I would make it more career oriented. And professors should be
required to be advisors so that students get more personalized advising.
H
EPOB 0397 More emphasis on internships or independent study.

EPOB 0546 Have more hands on experiences.
H
EPOB 0917 Allow students totake medical related at the Health Sciences Center
(C.U.) in Denver for credit at C.U. Boulder.

EPOB 1539 More field trips & hands on stuff.
H
ETHN 1488 Provide more applicability to meaningful, obs, graduate programs,
research, etc.
H
GEOG 0251 More skills based courses.
C H
IAFS 0461 More attention should be paid to post grad plans - preparing
students for interviews, job fairs, internships, we need more computer
experience!
H
IAFS 1279 More internships to be offered during the summer for experience.
H
JPNS 0353 More of a chance to actually speak the language.
N H
KINE 0196 Much of the laboratory equipment is very outdated! It would be
motivational to work with new and technologically sound equipment...it might
then feel more like the real world.
H
KINE 0800 Bring back sport medicine application classes.
H
KINE 0871 More hands-on experience
H
KINE 0972 More laboratory - practical classes giving hands-on experience.
H
KINE 1128 The only thing my program has prepared me for is to go on to
graduate school. Classes should be more practical and involve more real world
situations. For those of us who do not plan on grad. school, many classes are
a waste of time and money.
H
KINE 1457 Less on theory & research & more on hands-on, medical
H
MATH 0792 Need more practical problems can apply to real world.
H
MCDB 0600 Change the labs to the practice of real bio-tech technique rather
than middle-school microscope playing. ie. PCR in situ etc... skills that MCDB
grads need in the real world and also offer the chance to get exempted from
these labs if you are conducting research which familiarizes you w/the
techniques.
H
MCDB 1574 It is very difficult to get hands on lab experience if you don't
have work study - That needs to change!!!!
H
OPNO 0386 Less group projects!!! It is very difficult to find time to meet
with others when one has a real job.
H M
PHYS 0929 I would like more opportunities to get "work study" in my field of

PSCI 0488 That it would be more based on what actually happens, not theory.
(PSCI)
E H
PSYC 0799 I would make the classes less science and research based. For my
field I am going to be working with children, not rats and statistics. I would
want more interaction based classes.
H D
PSYC 0895 I think it is important that a psychology program incorporate more
ethnic/multi cultural issues. More hands-on programs would have been nice.

SPAN 1586 Encourage proficiency in the Spanish language, perhaps by requiring
an oral and written entrance exam for U.D. courses. The lack of fluency among
SPAN major seniors is pathetic. Combined with the fact that we exist in a

N H
BUUD 1551 The College of Business should probably get some more computers,
maybe also offer lap - tap rentals (the gov't does this in many branches) It
would be neat also if they offered some workshops on computing, as they do with
resumes, etc.
H F
FNCE 0434 More teachers who have recently held jobs outside of teaching so
real life applications to course material could be achieved.
H
FNCE 0469 I would like to have real world examples in the class room
H
FNCE 0666 Including mandatory speakers/industry presentations/career
presentations.
H
FNCE 1081 More real world application during class. If FNCE could emulate
the ESBM program in this aspect, I would be very pleased with the program.
H
INFS 0041 Having a senior project that I can really focus on rather than
having different project assignments during 2 final semesters.
H
INFS 0081 More hands-on experience. i.e. lab work.
H
INFS 0388 Make it more specialized...more hands on...
H
INFS 0580 I would add more hands on projects with real companies who need
work performed.
H
INFS 1027 More hands-on experience.
H
INFS 1183 classes.
H
MGMT 0866 More hands-on experience.
H
MKTG 0651 Internships that will give you credits.
H
MKTG 0677 I would have liked to see an internship program that is required
for all students in marketing. THis is invaluable and will help us get a job
while broadening our horizons. I have had alot of experience through my dad,
but other people I know have little to no experience and are now having a tough
tinme finding a job. Make something like the journalism school has, requiring
student to get internship and also help them get one.
--Engineering and Applied Science
H
ASEN 0052 More hands-on application of theory throughout the four years
(although current freshmen & sophomore engineering students are getting this
through ITLL). One other thing would be to focus less on abstract theory &
instead show how theory can be applied to practical problems.
H
ASEN 0144 I would incorporate more hands on and less theory. When I leave
here I will have forgotten most of the theory I have been exposed in detail to,
however, I will remember the things I have worked on with my own hands and
creativity.
H
ASEN 0624 maybe a little emphasis on real life situations.. not just theory.
Some classes, however, varied and were just fine Need a lot more experience on
computers. Although I've done this on my own, it would be better if it was
part of the program
H
ASEN 0636 Perhaps more hands-on experience, not all text book, classroom
work. I do realize, however, that the aerospace curiculum has undergone
extreme changes which effect the new students. It may have been useful to have
that available, but overall I am very satisfied with my experiences here at CU
and would definitely recomend CU with high regard to my friends.
H
ASEN 0708 I would like to see a 3-D drawing (computer) class given.
H
ASEN 1494 Teach more practical applications of the theories developed.
H
ASEN 1587 I feel that the Aerospace program needs to incorporate more
vocational skills. More specifically computer skills such as; CFD modeling,
and Finite Element Modeling. These are ultimately what new engineers will be
working with at the beginning of their carriers. It makes me much more
marketable for me to have those skills which companies won't have to pay me to
learn. Overall, the employment rate would be much higher for CU. I think it
would be worth adding another year to the curriculum. Other schools have
already made 5 year programs.
H
CVEN 0004 Involve myself in research.
H
CVEN 0749 Like what they are doing now with the ITL center and wish I would
have had that opportunity.
H
CVEN 0761 Less theoretical - more focus on real world problems.
H
EEEN 0454 As an electrical engineering major, I would try and incorporate
more applications to the real world in the lower division classes. It wasn't
until my last couple semesters where I really started figuring out what I
wanted to do with my degree.
H
EEEN 0641 Less theory and more application.
H
MCEN 0099 Focus less on theory and more on practical engineering knowledge
with more hands on learning.
H
MCEN 0290 More hands on! I didn't design/build anything while I was here!
And I'm expected to be able to do it when I'm in the real world.
H
MCEN 1294 More communication and writing skills would be emphasized.
H M
MCEN 1419 I would change it so that each class has a hands on lab. I realize
that this is accomplished with the ITLL, but I missed that. Anyway, I believe
the ME program deals with too much theory and not enough practice.
H
MCEN 1466 More hands on implementation of theory.
--Architecture and Planning
N H
ARCH 0544 Have a better studio sequence. Increase both theory and practice
classes.
H
ARCH 0854 more focus on practical issues
A F H
ARCH 1186 I would like to have had better academic advising. I would also
like to have had more choices for instructors- and an analysis of their
teaching methods. I would have liked more technical & computer skills.
H
ARCH 1425 More practical exposure to "real" designs. I feel inadequately
prepared to enter the profession.
H
PLAN 1040 More time to explore computer skills.
--Journalism and Mass Communication
H
NSED 0062 The classes don't reflect the workplace.
H
NSED 0398 The major program for journalism should be much more hands-on than
classroom lecture. Experience is essential in this field, and it seems like
very little of it was obtained in the classroom.

F
ANTH 0399 If I could change anything about my major program it would have to
be under instruction in lower division classes. This is to say that I felt
that I could have learned much more in the amount of time invested than I did.
A F
ANTH 0657 I wish I had known more about advisors/advising programs when I
first started at Boulder. I am now a senior and I am taking a lower division
requirement for my major. Prof. Hackenberg is one of the worst professors I
have ever had, both lower and upper division.
F
ANTH 1025 I would change the methods of teaching to one that would show my
students my interest in the subject (if I were the teacher) and work hard to
make my class more interesting & enthusiastic, rather than dry lecturing where
few people learn.
F
ANTH 1148 Have Van Gerven teach more classes besides ANTH 2010-20 and only
honors courses.
F
BAAH 1011 The inaccessibility of professors and their tendency to be more
concerned with their personal efforts (projects, research) than with their
students.
F
BASA 0342 The teachers.
F
BCHM 0276 Choosing professors who really know how to teach, not just know how
to earn research money for the university.
F
BCHM 1009 I wish the profs could be slightly more well rounded & willing to
discuss say philosophy & literature & how they might integrate w/ bio-chemistry.
F
BCHM 1034 Many of the lower division professors assume everyone has the same
background from high school, but not everyone does.
F
BCHM 1528 I would get rid of the professors that are strictly at this school
to do research, a university is a place to learn and I think that those
professors are a waste of space.
F
COMM 0298 The waste of time involved in many courses due to graduate student
instructors.
D F
COMM 0436 Greater diversity of views represented in the instructions and in
the texts and the subject matter at hand. I saw such philosophical homogeneity
among my professors - diversity would be refreshing.
F
COMM 0525 Fewer classes taught by grad. Students.
F
COMM 1051 While a handful of my teachers were good, others were really
terrible, boring, culturally insensitive, bad at the very thing they were
teaching.
F
ECON 0253 Bring back Dave Carr.
F
ECON 0301 A lot of the classes were full of uninteresting, uncaring profs.
more concerned with tenure.
F
ECON 0798 I would abolish tenure so that all professors are forced to teach.
It seems that tenured profs. Don't give a shit about their quality of teaching.
M F
ECON BBB2 I would make it more focused & intensive. I would also like a much
higher level of interaction w/faculty.
F
ENGL 0174 I've had some really good teachers that added to the traditional
major curriculum. I think all teachers should be required to go a little
beyond the norm.
F
ENGL 0321 Some faculty use critical theory as a shield. They do not see
other issues, even when they are explained and presented.
F
ENVS 0023 Spend more time with some instructors in order to build
relationships & be able to get recommendations easier.
N F
FILM 0768 -Increase funding to the department so as to maintain the equipment
& allow for hire of more critical studies professors.
F
FMST 0700 Fire Patti Bruck & Phil solomon post haste! They are ignorant &
egotistical hurdles to knowledge!
A F
GEOG 0711 More advising & structure throughout course work - more interaction
with faculty and staff especially oriented towards post-grad careers.
F
GRMN 0705 better upper division language instructor - the one we have is very
friendly and likable but a sub-standard professor.
F
HIST 0231 More interaction with students.
F
MCDB 0769 In my MCDB major the professors don't really seem to enjoy teaching.
It seems as though they treat it as a chore, something that they just have to
do. In EPOB the professors seem to care more. They really get into what they
are teaching.
F
PHYS 1497 The teaching in both the physics and atronomy departments are
largely very weak. I've had a few good professors, but I've had many more that
were sub-standard.
F A
PSCI 0303 More accessability to the few individuals that understood how the
registrar's office required students to register, find classes and understand
the graduation requirements. The professors need to be kept or dismissed based
upon their ability to teach and relay information, rather than time spent in
the university or the academic uniqueness of field of study.
F
PSCI 0605 That I don't have graduate students teaching me my senior year.
That really passes me off.
F
RLST 1476 I would remove some faculty members who are atrocious teachers.
F
SOCI 0814
A F
SPAN 0938 Better communication between students and faculty. Better
advising! Have the department keep updated degree audits and have advisors be
able to explain what classes are recommended, etc.
F
SPAN 1089 I have had instructors, I could not relate to.
F
THTR 1223 I think teachers would get better results of students were rewarded
for putting in extra effort but not punished for putting a little less than
satisfactory. We all have classes we are willing to put extra time into. If
that's where our energy is going, why must we be punished with putting in below
average time in other classes? There should be a solution considered to fix
this.
F
XXXX 0207 I feel some professors are too intimidating and tend to increase
tension in class rather than relieve it and make them feel comfortable.
A F
XXXX 0407 I encountered poor advising my junior year, thus resulting in an
extrayear of course work that could of been avoided. The required
classes aren't taught by professors which leads to frustration because they
haven't taught a class before.
--Business and Administration
F
ACCT 0806 The professors who seem more focused on their research than
teaching should be replaced for instructors who enjoy teaching.
F
ACCT 1220 Some of the business professors have great knowledge in the field,
however, the way they teach is not very effective.
F
ACCT 1221 I think the Business School faculty is very poor, particularly a
few who have tenure. They don't care about their job or their students.
F
FNCE 0086 Have more interesting professors like Rush & Weimers.
F
FNCE 1351 I would have better professors when it comes to integrated teaching
courses.
F
INFS 0554 The selections made by the administration regarding the professors
teaching courses.
F
MGMT 0329 More experienced professors that have been in the work force w/
positions they are trying to teach us about.
F
MGMT 0820 Better professors teaching the leadership class. The professor I
had was not a leader and had no business teaching a leadership class.
F
MKTG 0575 Get a different professor for the bcor marketing. He was rude and
in my opinion, turned people off of the marketing program.
--Engineering and Applied Science
F
ASEN 1108 I would encourage faculty who do not speak English very well to
take classes! It's a big problem!
F
ASEN 1251 Most sophmore classes are tought with little care towards the
students.
F
ASEN 1256 Escort some of the older professors into retirement sooner.
F
ASEN 1257 The quality of professors, there have been many good professors in
my major, but there have also been others who clearly did not want to be
teaching the course.
F
ASEN 1597 Get professors that care about the students. i.e. Rosborough an
McGrath are two prime example of faculty that care
F
CHEN 1565 Change all: Chem E faculty doesn't know what they're
doing/unprepared. Chem E faculty somewhat biased/sexism prevalent. Chem E
faculty more concerned w/grants than students.
F
CSEN 0238 Not allow graduate students (Basim Kadim) to teach upper level
courses.
F
CSEN 0774 More professors. I love the work Tom Cargill did with the evening
extension classes, but extension seems to get overlooked as a "poor relative"
F
CSEN 1522 There needs to be better teachers for the computer science classes,
with the exception of Michael Main.
F
CVEN 0155 Have professor available to students 9 am to 5 pm. As long as they
are not doing something else that is related to their jobs. I hate to see a
locked door every time I want to see a professor. It's their job to be their
for student! no office hours Just be there all the time.
F
CVEN 0309 Require TA's to attend classes.
F
EEEN 0316 Change the emphasis from research to teaching for most prof. (if
possible).
F
EEEN 0923 More one on one advising, where advisors/faculty are really concerned
about my career path & education. Too often, here (and other big universities)
students are treated just as "another" student without much thought as to how
best to help each student.
F
MCEN 0001 Fire the bad professors.
F A
MCEN 1031 Faculty and advising staff seem to treat teaching as a necessary
evil to keep them working on their projects.
F
MCEN 1141 My biggest disappointment in the M.E. Dept. was the quality of the
professors. I had a few profs which were outstanding, but most were mediocre
to poor.
F
MCEN 1252 There are a few instructors who don't seem to care about the
quality of education they are giving the students. I think that I would be
much more cautious about what professors I chose for classes to avoid problems
and to get the best education for the money.
--Architecture and Planning
F
ARCH 0779 I would hire more dynamic professors that are more knowledgeable
about many things rather than being boring and have a particular specialization
(J. Draper). I would also hire professors that are interesting and motivated
people and continue to work and be curious about life, rather than getting
their PhD and sitting on their ass for the next two decades (W. VonVliet)School
is like a giant pottery class. The students are the clay, and the teachers are
the potters. Both play a vital role, but the outcome of the pottery is mostly
dependant on the quality of the potters.
P F E
PLAN 1366 I would have majored in something else. My current major, as far
as the teaching has been very unsatisfactory. I can actually say the I have
gone through some courses and did not learn much and the teachers for these
classes seemed to be unsure of what they were teaching and were always
unavailable.
--Journalism and Mass Communication
F
BCNS 1116 Hire better professors (some that have actually been in the field).
F C
BCPM 0843 The instructors would be better organized & knowledgeable about the
technical aspects. - I had an instructor for TV1 who didn't know how to work
the equipment - we had to figure it out ourselves. Also, - there would be some
job placement help for after graduation jobs. They hardly help at all.
F
NSED 0138 Better instructors, less grad student teachers. The full-time
professors that I had classes with were always great, but the grad students
were consistently poor instructors.
--Music
S F
MUSA 1315 I would change my classmates, professors & many faculty members
attitudes & perceptions about the legitimacy of Jazz music. (I don't think
this is very likely)
F
MUSC 0491 Invite a younger, more enthusiastic professor of composition - some
are with contacts with other more prestigious schools.
ACADEMIC ADVISING
--Arts and Sciences
A
ANTH 1318 make the academic advising program more cohesive. i would also not
require that students study all areas of anthropology
(physical/cultural/archeology etc) as upper division courses.
A
BASA 0332 I would recommend better advising in EPOB and FINE.
A C
CHEM 0578 More structured advising from faculty about careers & course work.
A
CHEM 0812 As a premed student I found it difficult to discuss my plans with
anyone, because the science professors on campus (Chem, Bio, etc.) didn't
really want to "waste" too much time with the preprofessional people as they
were trying to cultivate more majors in the program. The advising office had a
preprofessional advisor, but she was so busy with all the prelaw, premed,
predent, students and rarely had much time.
A
CLAS 0930 I would suggest requiring students to meet with an Arts and
Sciences core advisor before their senior year to help them through the
planning stages.
A
COMM 0038 My double major is in Environmental Studies. I had problems with
this major. Although it was a good major as far as the material learned. The
advisor is rude and unhelpful. I know that she has a lot of students and she
is the only advisor, but on several occassions I went to her for help and I
received none. She was short with me and basically told me that she did not
have time to help me. She needs assistance and because she has none causes her
to be this way. So, if the university can do anything please help her, because
her lack of assistance in turn hurts the students.
A
COMM 0504 The first advisor I had in the program was great - then in the
summer before my senior year, a new advisor was appointed. The new advisor was
not as knowledgeable nor was she as capable at handling complex issues in the
registration process. Furthermore, she told me contradictory information to
what the first advisor as well as the school of Arts & Sciences verified was
true.
A
ENGL 1146 Have a specific advisor for each student.
A
ENVS 0466 more advisors
A
ENVS 0508 The advising
A N
ENVS 0601 We desperately need advising, funding for classes, recognition as
a major, etc...
A
ENVS 0876 More advising--it's impossible to see our advisor because she's so
overworked. This also makes her very grumpy!
A
ENVS 0888 More advisors
A
ENVS 1124 more advising.
A
EPOB 0002 More clarity on courses that need to be taken.
A
EPOB 0689 A little more advising.
M A
EPOB 0874 If you are going to keep the requirements the same, at least have
the decency to make them LESS CONFUSING!! I don't know how many times I have
had to go to the undergraduate advisor to ask what I still needed to get in
order to graduate. They shouldn't have to translate my audit for me, I should
be able to read it with perfect understanding. Take some time and revise the
audit materials.
A
EPOB 1388 The advising that I got recently was excellent however the advising
in the past was the pits and I ended up having to complete more courses after I
thought that I could graduate. I like my major just as is and I wish I could
take even more courses.
A
GEOG 0755 Better faculty advising/follow-up.
A
HIST 0370 Develop a better system for advising; create more continuity
between major advising and A&S advising.
A
HIST 0754 Better adivising
A
HIST 1562 Required academic counseling so I didn't end up taking classes that
were not helpful in speeding up the graduation process.
A
KINE 0315 Advisors aren't very great.
A
KINE 0690 For the advisor to be clearer about the classes needed for my major
& to tell me for example that I could have taken KINE Critical Thinking & also
used this as my core.
A
MCDB 1262 Train someone to do decent advising. Neither of the two people who
do advising know enough about the university graduation requirements in order
to help you plan to meet both major and university requirement in an efficient
way. They also don't know enough about what the best order is to take courses
in. Some courses I took in my major would have been A LOT easier if I had
taken other courses first (not listed as prerequisites).
A
PHYS 1422 The advising was horrible.
A
PSCI 1045 Better advising - Laura Cooper is a bitch!: Unhelpful, put out, &
mean. I have had no help in figuring out future plans & goals, or with
graduation or general registration info.
A
PSCI 1571 Better advisement in course selection.
A
PSYC 0094 Better core advising.
A
PSYC 0936 Get Dr. Macey out of advising. She has no idea what the hell she's
doing. She is rude, and only helps the people she seems to like. She is not
encouraging, she is discouraging. She is apparently uninformed about many
alternatives to a Ph.D. in Psychology, and therefore is of little help. It
would be nice to be able to do an emphasis in a certain area of Psychgology,
rather than doing a general degree. Some real advisors who know what they're
talking about, who help with grad applications, resumes, and career plans would
be a plus. They could help to dispell all the mystery surrounding all this
stuff.
A
PSYC 1185 More thorough academic advising.
C A
SOCI 0185 More advising about what job opportunities are available and better
undergraduate advising. As a student it's extremely difficult to understand
all the requirements & how to most efficiently fulfill those requirements.
More advising in this area is needed.
A
SOCI 0734 Organized mandatory advising sessions. Why not give each student a
faculty advisor that he/she meets w/at least once per semester?
A
SPAN 1240 Better advising, I was unaware that you could have no more than 45
hours in my major department.
A
SPPR 1575 There are not enough advisors in my major program causing major
wait periods prior to registration periods. My advisor is overwhelmed with
students in a program that continues to grow but is uncompensated with
additional funds. In fact, recent cuts were made to the Spanish department
despite the importance of this major in the global environment.
--Business and Administration
A
ACCT 0302 The advising, w/exception of Nancy Stec-helstad.
A
ACCT 0728 Advising - They really weren't too helpful
A
ACCT 1235 I would have advisors who know what the hell they're advising
about. In the Business School they changed the requirements halfway through my
time here, and they still don't know about the OLD requirements let alone the
new ones. Getting different answers from different advisors and then pointing
out the discrepancies to them and having them act like it's no big deal is very
frustrating. They could care less if I took a million classes that wouldn't
even count towards my degree, and then if they found out anything new they
probably wouldn't even tell me. It's their job to be knowledgable and care
about what they're advising me to do with my hard earned money (I'm putting
myself through school) and my limited time, and yet they aren't and they don't.
To top it off, when I want to talk to one of them, I sometimes have to wait
upwards of fifteen minutes! I think that each student should have their own
advisor (like they do at CSU), somebody who is familiar with the program and
who cares about the students' educations. This way the student could make
appointments with their advisor, call them, or email them - and the advisor
will know who it is and what should be done.
A
ACCT 1293 The undergraduate advisors - they are rude & incompetent.
A
MGMT 0331 Get more advice from advisors. I used to go to a smaller college &
had a specific advisor who I was able to get to know. I have a different
advisor every time I go to business advisors.
A
MGMT 0637 The terrible advising that is so common in the business
undergraduate office.
A
MKTG 0908 The advising is a problem. They are doing a lot of revamping in
the B-B-School, and the personal attention is not being given to individuals.
They need to make sure the requirements are straight forward and questions
should be welcomed.
A
MKTG 1205 Advising, the employees in the advising area seemed like they were
on their time, their schedule instead of helping the student.
A
MKTG 1206 PSYC & MKTG advising is horrible: advisors are not knowledgeable
and expect you to wait at least 1/2 hour to see them. Then they give poor
advice & enroll you in the wrong classes.
A
MKTG 1359 The advisors at the Business school are incredibly unhelpful and
even rude at times. I found their advising almost more hindering than helpful.
I would even go so far as to say that the poor quality of their advising
contributed to my graduating a semester later than planned.
--Engineering and Applied Science
A
AREN 0577 Let students know what their options are: structural eng., HVAC,
lighting, construction mgmt. in architectural engineering in the BEGINNING! I
didn't know lighting field existed until I only had 2 semesters left to take
all the classes available.
A
CHEN 0083 Prof. Kompala should not be teaching any undergraduates and He,
definetly, should not be an advisor for undergraduates in the chemical
engineering department. My second semester in my freshman year this man told
me that I should drop out of chemical engineering if I can not get a 3.5 GPA.
A
CHEN 0336 Explain the options more clearly--what each entails, what classes
are required, etc. I wanted to do the Materials option, but it's too late now
to get all the classes in.
A
CVEN 1468 better advising
E A
EEEN 0210 In the upper division courses try to make available some type of
tutoring. I am aware of the engineering advocates but they do not offer higher
level (3000 to 4000) tutoring. If I had an eng. adv. available sooner possibly
my graduation date would have moved up. Get rid of graduate students teaching
classes!!!!!
A
EEEN 1182 Re-arrange the whole advising. Many promises (i.e. "you will
graduate if you take these classes") were made that could not be kept. More
business classes in the electives would help engineers in real world situations.
A
MCEN 0736 The advising program needs major improvement.
--Journalism and Mass Communication
A
ADVT 0476 Much better & more organized advising - not just Steve Jones for
all Journalism School students.
A
ADVT 1368 The advising. Before I was in Journalism School, I knew more than
my advisors did. When Steve Jones was my advisor, I had to wait at least 2
hours in front of his office just to get my flag removed. It was a complete
wast of time.
A
BCNS 1333 More direct advising as to whether you will succeed!
M A
NSED 1384 More communication to students about important classes, meeting
times. -More advisors to talk to without long waits (ie. Steve Jones syndrome)
A
NSED 1501 The advising, they have a good idea in making it mandatory, but
especially before I got into the j. school, the advising was awful. I was
misinformed by students advising me that obviously didn't know much about
requirements. After that my advisors never had time for me and it was very
frustrating to get in and try to get my flag lifted. Advising is an important
support system, and it just wasn't there for me.

friendly, knowledgeable people to staff help rooms . (Dr. Droter is
consistently abrupt and rude to me.)
D
BFAS 0089 More classes available for other art cultures of the world.
N
BFAS 0543 Lack of proper equipment. Lack of space in art building. The
sciences have two new buildings. Our building is a disaster - terrible
ventilation! So it is a safety hazard.
N T
BFAS 0865 The facilities, Fine Arts needs to upgrade everything. The
University does not seem interested in supporting this major. If this is the
case, drop the major as you are overcharging for too poor working environment.
Instructors alone do not make the program. I am aware that higher education
has become a big business, the programs which bring in big outside money are
the programs the University supports. I would make the University aware that
their premise is still education not greed and lower qualities of mankind.

BFAS 1389 Allow more time to complete it.
M
CDSS 0950 More organization. I probably won't get into grad school because
my SCHS grades are poor. Had I been in another major I could have gotten
better grades and then started over in a good grad school.
C
CDSS 1312 That they would be more willing to help us find internships and
jobs.
J
CLAS 0964 Nothing.
M
COMM 0270 The registration process h as been absolutely unacceptable. There
is no excuse for wait listing juniors and/or seniors for required major courses!
M
COMM 0940 If I could change one thing about the Communication major, it would
be to make the major more specialized. Instead of just one general degree,
there should be specific topics of interest. (ie. Public Relations)
O
COMM 1035 No 8 a.m. classes.
E M
COMM 1165 It is too broad. I have no idea what I am able to do with it.
Don't feel qualified for anything specific but rather for a broad variety of
nothing.
M
DNCE 0582 The numbers of credits given for each course. For example, I am
enrolled in 9 classes and it is only 18 hours! This is due to many of the
dance classes being 1 or 2 credits each. I have a class that meets every day
for 1 1/2 hours and is only 2 credits- and yes, I am required papers and more
than just attendance.
M
ECON 0018 I feel that major requirement for graduation criterium should only
apply to the time the student is accepted to that school, not when he/she
declares the major.
M
ECON 0151 There needs to be help outside class, a lab or something.
N
ECON 0313 I would have more clubs or other social activities in my major.
C
ECON 0537 More advising on careers for economists
P
ECON 1062 I would totally drop from it and go to computer science
C
ECON 1115 More emphasis on career acquisition when you leave undergrad.
program!
*D
ENGL 0305 To not get overly involved with "multi cultural" lit. Don't ignore
marginalized, minority writers, but don't ignore great works by white males
either.
M
ENGL 0813 No maximum hours for English classes. As an English student, I
should have the opportunity to explore this interest as much as I want as long
as I complete the core requirements.
J
ENGL 1092 Satisfied w/major program thus far.
M
ENGL 1253 Receive a diploma with Women's Studies written on it!!!!
M
ENGL 1291 I am an English and Communications major. I chose to focus on Eng.
in this survey because I got much more out of it as a learning experience.
Comm is much too easy and high school like - never felt motivated to explore
anything further in Comm.
C
ENGL 1433 I would want more information given to English & History (I am a
double major) majors about what sorts of career opportunities are available to
us, & how we should go about finding a career & pursuing a job in that field.
I do not think we get nearly as much of this sort of guidance & assistance as
more technical majors do & we need it more in order to succeed.
C
ENVS 0031 I would like to have a career goal and cater my studies more toward
that goal.
M
ENVS 0522 Have the program satisfy a hard science degree, actually have a
department when there are over 500 students in the program.
D
ENVS 1222 Downsizing course requirements.
M
EPOB 0111 I would not have a limit on the number of credits you can take in
your major. I would rather take more classes I could use in my future than some
type of filler class that I will not use.
C
EPOB 0247 More career counseling/options; less broad scope
N
EPOB 0654 More field trips/movies.
M
EPOB 1125 I would change EPOB to a BS degree instead of a BA. I found several
of the A&S courses required of me to be a waste of time and money!
N
FILM 0115 Make the school put some money into the film program. We need
better projectors, better sound, etc.
C
FILM 0180 The focus for career plans.
N
FMST 0284 Give the film department more money. The film department saved me.
it made me love CU. The film department is truly amazing unfortunately the
production major is frowned upon by the powers that be. Why? Why? Why? It is
a shame that it is so looked over but thanks to a dedicated staff it continues
to grow. Any negative remark I made in this survey reflects mainly on the
university as a whole. The film department does superbly with what it has.
It is a shame it doesn't have more.
N
FMST 0886 More equipment - the film department is way under funded. The
editing machines never work. The cameras are always breaking.
O
FMST 1167 Not to be so narrow minded towards narrative film.
J
GEOG 1039 nothing.
M
GEOG 1402 More allowable credits in the field (ie. - 45) Why? Because when
one transfers h/she doesn't receive a letter grade from prior school, only the
credit. This adds on to the total amounts of credits, but doesn't allow the
student to necessarily prove him/herself.
O
HIST 0168 I enjoyed history, and the department is great! As far as my
interest in flying, a major like Physical Geography (meteorology) would maybe
have been more to my liking. I am still pleased w/my history studies.
M
HIST 0688 Students who put a great deal of effort into their studies in that
particular major should be rewarded, not just those who write honors theses.
C
HIST 1113 More professional advising. Not once in college have I been
advised on a career path, from anyone in the History Department.
M
HUMN 1033 Do not lose the humanities dept. to "comparative literature" - it
waters down what is really important.
C
HUMN 1367 more emphasis on what can be done with my degree when I graduate.
C
IAFS 0281 Better career development (or help with deciding on a graduate
program).
J
IAFS 0903 Nothing, I love it.
M
IAFS 1044 Would allow for testing out of IAFS 1000.
C
IAFS 1084 I would want to give students more advice on carrers after
graduation.
M
IAFS 1254 -More focus on the individual & what each student needs. -not
basing everything on bureaucratic guidelines.
E
KINE 0451 I felt that a lot of the information was repetitive.
M
KINE 0835 Make it a tougher program so that it gets a little respect.
M
KINE 1155 I would change the degree from BA to BS. (no need to keep that
confidential)
J
KINE 1288 Nothing
J
MCDB 0045 Don't know.
C M
MCDB 1272 Career advising diversity, different ways besides research and med
school to apply an MCDB degree. Maybe include a law/ethics course?
O
OPNO 1533 I'd get one.
M
OPNO 1556 Requirement to enter into Business School as transfer student be
easier. So that I can graduate on time.
O
PHIL 0785 More existentialism, less rationalism.
J
PHIL 0906 Nothing
J
PHYS 0392 Nothing. Happy.
C
PHYS 1150 More career advising. It's tough to figure out on your own what
options a physics major has. All my info I got through career connections
(which was great, by the way).
E
PRCH 1164 Availability of tutoring for non-dorm-resident, non athlete
students.
M
PSCI 0079 I would have like for the program to be more rigorous and more
structured.
P
PSCI 1133 I would choose a major that would increase my chances in one
specific field and perhaps even groom me for a specific position.
C
PSCI 1154 Replace Thoel Tecza as the head of the P-Sci internship program,
the man actually discouraged me from participating in an internship.
O
PSCI 1236 It would've been nice to have taken the combo Econ. class instead
of both Micro. and Macro.
N
PSCI 1516 I WOULD MAKE IT A FEELING OF MORE OF A COMMUNITY, PERHAPS THROUGH
REQUIRED LUNCHEONS OR ACTIVITIES OR MEETINGS
M
PSYC 0109 Perhaps I would put a restriction of some sort (a qualifying exam?)
to weed out some students for the Psych. program. Some of my upper division
classes were just so large, it was easy to be lost in the shuffle.
M
PSYC 0159 Create a neuroscience major.
D
PSYC 0170 More diversity/broad.
P
PSYC 0976 I think the Psychology Department is fairly well-organized and had
a great selection of courses. I just don't know why I was in it...
P
PSYC 1188 I probably wouldn't major in Psychology. It was good to learn more
about the way people work but you can't really do anything w/a undergraduate
PSYC degree unless you go to graduate school or get a teaching license.
M
SOCI 1056 SOCY - The whole department except Hunter. ECON-
J
SOCI 1370 Program is good.
M
SOCI 1416 I think you should be able to specialize in one area of Sociology
O
THTR 0010 no graduate students
M
WMST 0363 Approved degree status.
N M
WMST 0751 Well, no until recently I would have said I would like CU to
recognize my work on my diploma, but luckily CU has decided that would be best
- so I have to think up a new complaint. I guess I would say that I wish the
WMST dept. had a larger budget so that they could more fully realize the
teachings of the program - so that they could have more freedom to expand
alternative teaching strategies. It really is an excellent program.
J
WMST 1047 Nothing! Women Studies is perfect!
M
XXXX 0340 Just about every time I went to the Spanish Dept. there were
problems and I left frustrated. I've always felt that the department in general
is disorganized and at times quite rude. I've had great professors from the
department though.
--Business and Administration
P
ACCT 0056 I wouldn't be in this major. I chose this major so I could get a
job when I graduated...but now I realize I really just don't like ACCT.
M
ACCT 0098 Add International Accounting.
M
ACCT 0133 Separate grad students from undergrad students.
C
ACCT 0274 Require a class or more extensive counseling designed to inform
students about possible career paths for each major, availability of jobs in
that field, types of people who would do well, and what a student should do to
make him/herself more marketable.
M
ACCT 0784 Don't just emphasize public accounting. Show that there are other
things to do w/an accounting degree.
E
ACCT 0973 Discouraging amount of tedious information. Concerned w/how I will
be able to remember and use this info. after graduation.
E
ACCT 0999 Have it be more respected by employers across the nation.
C
ACCT 1232 Stronger emphasis on self-employment. CU has the #1
Entrepreneurial Studies program in the USA, but for 4 years (more in my case)
the SOLE FOCUS is getting a JOB to work for someone else.
J
ACCT 1429 Nothing.
M
BUUD 0085 The fact that I transferred here and had to start at the beginning
of the BCOR curriculum really irritated me because I had taken some of the
classes at a community college and the advisors said they would not transfer here.
M
FNCE 0063 I would like to recieve more recoginition for my majors. I have a
triple major at the business school and have completed all the course work for
the majors, however I will only be receiving one diploma. I think that I have
earned the recognition and deserve to have a diploma for each major. If I do
the work and pay my tuition and believe the school should acknowledgle the hard
work and money I have invested.
E
FNCE 0128 I got a double degree - Computer Science, Finance. I felt that the
education that I received in the Business School lagged compared to the
education received (not comparable) in the Engineering School.
M
FNCE 0220 I think that the Finance Dept. should give students more of the
"Big Picture" first and then concentrate on the specifics.
M
INBU 0568 Quit changing degree requirements!
J
INFS 0011 Nothing
J
INFS 0373 Nothing
M
INFS 0512 I only needed 4 classes in my major (INFS). I realize that it is
actually and emphasis & not a full major, but that is still not much experience.
N
INFS 1184 Updated materials. Some of the books were out of date. It only
takes a couple of years for a book to become obsolete in the comptuer industry.
J
MKTG 0312 None
J
MKTG 0557 Everything was fine.
M C
MKTG 0611 I am interested in the hotel industry and I am very disappointed
that the college of business does not have a hotel school, especially since the
ski inductry is so huge here. It would be beneficial to have some more
hospitality related careers at the career fairs.
M
MKTG 0787 The confusion!! Always changing the program & required courses to
graduate.
C
MKTG 1570 More info/emphasis on obtaining internship. (Actually, that Manuel
Laguna didn't teach OPMG)
C
TOMG 1207 More opportunities to hear about the vast array of careers involved
in the service industry It would have been nice to know that CU was dropping my
TOMG major when they first decided instead of one day getting a letter that
said all but three classes were gone.
M
XXXX 0277 It has already been changed, but it's no longer a major. I wish
all of the requirements now for the INBU cert. were my requirements for my
degree/major.
--Engineering and Applied Science
J
AMEN 1229 Nothing I did exactly what I wanted to do.
N
AREN 1096 Need more clubs/dances/etc. in dorm life to get people to meet each
other outside of own dorm.
N
ASEN 1030 Using textbooks only because they were writen by a faculty member
and not because they were the best available.
M
ASEN 1523 Make it easier to get out in 4 years
P
ASEN 1547 Actually, after completing my degree in engineering I have decided
not to pursue a career in engineering. So, I guess I would have studied
something else.
M
CHEN 0628 Increase the credit hours for junior and senior labs. Those
classes are only 2 credits each but require more work than the regular 3 credit
classes.
E
CHEN 1114 Less work.
S
CSEN 0037 Motivate students more in certain courses, so that students will
attend classes and do their homework.
J
CSEN 0429 Nothing
P
CSEN 0490 My major.
E N
CSEN 1324 More one on one help in the CS labs for the lower division
students. I've noticed a slight increase in this in the last few years, so
this is a step in the right direction. Also, new and better hardware is always
a positive things. (With support to keep it running).
S
CSEN 1507 Make it a more community (of CS majors) oriented program. In the
MCEN Dept. for example, everyone knows everyone else.
M
CSEN 1559 More selective/tougher. Stop being easy on stupid lazy
underclassmen.
O
CVEN 0053 I would plan my tech elective credits better.
M
CVEN 0852 5 year program.
O
CVEN 1349 My performance in it. Okay, it's not the kind of answer that you
are looking for... but for me it's true!
J
EEEN 0956 Good program.
N
MCEN 0017 Get department involved in more clubs.
E
MCEN 0028 I think more emphasis should be given to the theories of math and
physics rather than to practical implementations.
S
MCEN 0861 Improve my classmates interest in liberal arts.
E
MCEN 1059 difficultness
--Architecture and Planning
O
ARCH 0057 I would have liked to be at a better school for my major. The Arch
school that I'm in just got their cirtification.
O
ARCH 0100 Gone to a major school with a professional degree.. e.g. Arizona,
California or somewhere in the East cost!
N
ARCH 0618 The building it is in. This place is such a dump, people
perpetrate the problem due to lack of respect. The education could benefit
from more professional development programs.
M
ARCH 0825 The politics of a Denver/Boulder split faculty - we need
integration, a clear sense of direction for the school.
N
ARCH 1098 Have it accredited. it would probably help w/renovation of the
ENVD building. More computers, new desks, etc. are always scarce resources.
S
ARCH 1310 Quality of students within the program...not enough responsibility.
Envd program needs a second year portfolio review.
N M E
ARCH 1343 ENVD asks too much of their students for very little in return. My
school has driven me to want to quit school forever, I am lucky to still have
the motivation to graduate. The facilities are horrible, but the teachers are
pretty good. The work load is ridiculous. I used to like architecture and now
I hate it. I hope I can find some kind of a career with a batchelor's degree.
M
ARCH 1546 More organization. Students need to understand the best order in
which to take required courses.
N
PLAN 0855 Better & more computers - Computer labs in ENVD open for longer
hours. Fix broken computers.
--Journalism and Mass Communication
M N
ADVT 0289 I would not have it as a part of the J-School. Advertising should
be it's own program, they desperately need technology, computers, scanners,
etc. that are accessible for advertising students @ all times.
N
BCNS 0742 The equipment in the Journalism School is ridiculously bad. It's a
real shame the school can't provide students with adequate equipment they need
in order to be successful after graduation. I demand someone look into this!
M
BCNS 0856 Ability to major in another section of the J-School.
--Music
M N
MUSA 1149 the amount of time available in Grusin Hall for performance
practice, plus more pianos in better condition to practice on, plus Macky
Auditorium open for organ majors to practice on. Right now this is not an
option.
M C
MUSC 0735 The entire school of music should be more organized and structured
and less political. Also, there should be more preparation for post-graduate
events...ie, auditions for orchestral positions or grad schools...as I do not
feel that my course of study has prepared me in any way to be able to audition
and secure an orchestral job, and grad school auditions were a mystery to me
until I went through them.
O
MUSC 1200 Convocations.
M
MUSE 0513 I would allow students to use previous community service to apply
for admission to the School of Education. I would also make the process for
transfer students easier.
