CU-Boulder 1998 Community Survey

Scales Used in the Displays

The "situation for you" scale (see section 4, "Overall Experience at UCB") combines 25 questions on how comfortable students feel in various campus and Boulder settings and activities, 14 questions on positive and negative feelings related to the UCB experience, one item giving an overall rating of UCB, and one item on whether the student would recommend UCB to a friend.

The "situation for your group" and "situation for you as a group member" scales (see section 4) combine overall ratings of UCB with ratings of how students feel their group, or they as group members, get treated at CU-Boulder relative to other students.

"Financial worries" is a composite of two items that ask students how often they've felt "overwhelmed by financial worries" and "concerned about the financial burden your education has placed on your family."

The "stereotyping" scale combines 5 items that ask about groups that may commit overt prejudice and discrimination against respondents with 21 items detailing specific kinds of stereotyping experiences students have faced.

"Comfort in 25 settings" is a subset of the "situation for you" scale and asks how comfortable students feel in various campus and Boulder settings and activities.
