QID 265 : Asian
This survey has highlighted the disillusionment and disconnection that I
feel towards CU. I am not concerned about racial/ethnic issues where
minorities make up a tiny fraction of the campus and tend assimilate.

Q D
QID 003 : Black/African Amer
This is a good questionaire I think. It is a small step in the right
direction. But it will hardly do anything productive about the rampant racism
that exist on all levels at CU-Boulder.

D
QID 069 : Black/African Amer
Prejudice and racism is very alive and evident on this campus!

D
QID 054 : Hispanic
I think that if someone were to ask any student of color this question or
another concerning racial/ethnic issues the student would respond with some
form of discontent or unhappiness with relation to race/ethnicity.

QID 082 : Hispanic
There's a lot of undercover discrimination they mostly don't say anything
but just treat you differently.

D
QID 114 : Native American
I think its funny that at campus diversity meetings it's a bunch of white
guys talking about multicultural diversity.

QID 024 : Asian
Coming from New York, the campus is noticably "white." I don't see that as
a problem since I feel comfortable in this setting knowing that the level of
understanding and tolerence is high. Whereas, at times in a "diverse" setting,
tension is even greater as social groups have a tendency to bond by
commonalities including ones racial/ethnic background, this situation could
sometimes cause greater segregation as outsides feel as though they have to
play such role to fit in. Sad picture.

QID 062 : Asian
UCB has a long way to go to reach a good mix of racial/ehtnic diversity.
Althought, UCB is taking a step in the right direction. I do believe that UCB
has done a good job preventing (the encouragement of) prejudice.

QID 078 : Asian
Though CU has been making efforts to meet the needs of all students,
students of color still often feel alienated. The Cultural Unity Ctr., and
other services are helpful but again, more effort needs to be made to make
students more aware of what's out there.

QID 140 : Asian
I have not seen a lot of programs for the black community, I think there
should be more. Race and ethnicity is under control, meaning not a lot of
people even notice that there are minority students interacting with them. It
is widely expressed throughout the campus (good job).

QID 037 : Hispanic
It give me hope to know that the most powerful country in the world is
taking action in issues that involve human diversity. The visionary mission to
unity all kinds of idiosyncrasies to identifying thesleves first with the fact
that they are humanbeings. My ideal is to get individuals to feel that they
are "citizens of the world." This questionare shows the interest the US
communities have taken to change their own socio-cultural environment.

QID 288 : Native American
Yes, that racial/ethnic issues need to be a great priority for this campus.
Along with being discussed more within administration, the classrooms and they
need to be more visible within the campus environment/community. P.S> It
would be nice to know how much $ was spent printing this questionnaire, getting
it together and all other costs associated with it.

QID 048 : White
As hard as CU seems to be working at acheiving "diversity" - many groups
still seem and are under representative of the goal. Affirmative Actions must
continue and encouraged. Sources such as the WRC (not extremist groups)

Comments on: CITED SPECIFIC PROBLEM OR SUGGESTION

S
QID 077 : Asian
I beleive that aren't enough interactions between minority student groups.
As a result this may foster segregration rather than diversity. Members in an
ethnic group tend to stick to each other.

S
QID 128 : Asian
It is unfortunate that those of mostly European descent are often
criticized for speaking their minds on racial/ethic issues while those like
myself are shielded from similar criticisms for fear of sounding racist towards
me. We all deserve a voice and we all should be vulnerable to constructive
criticism

S
QID 151 : Asian
My only issue is that only certain minorities are more focused upon
... what I mean by this is that, as an Asian-American, I find most clubs
and any scholarships aimed more toward the predominant Asian groups.
Where's some attention for the "less prevalent" Asian groups, such as
Thais (I am half Thai), Laotians, Cambodians, etc?

S
QID 002 : Black/African Amer
We need an African history class. Look also at people credentials instead
of how much money they will contribute to the university (out-of-state people).

S T
QID 129 : Black/African Amer
I have sensed a lot of racial tension up here. That tension makes it
frustrating and harder to make friends. People are more concerned with trying
not to offend others that it makes everyone uncomfortable. Being an African
American female, my floormates were very comfortable around me. (They've told
me themselves) Now, after everyone is "relaxed" with me we've all become
friends.

S
QID 243 : Black/African Amer
The university must deal swiftly and effectively with persons who manifest
racial attitudes ... some thing which the University seems to have failed to do
up to this point. Remember Matt Shepard, and by association, to political
implications.

S
QID 279 : Black/African Amer
It is obvious as the color of someone's skin that they are different or
rare on this campus. My reference is to minority students that do not/cannot
pass for white. My issue is that poeple try not to make it an issue by
overlooking someone's obvious differences. Instead of overlooking, why not
look them in their eyes, ackowledge their different and get to know them
period.

Q W S
QID 281 : Black/African Amer
This is a helpful questionnaire. But I think that it is pretty unrealistic
to get a diverse set of opinions in such an undiverse school. I don't feel
that there are enough African-American students that go to CU to give fair
representation of our opinions - or for that matter there are not enough
"minorities" of any background to have our opinions weigh to the majority white
opinion. Also, I am very upset that there has been nothing done by the
administration and alumni of CU about the hate mail that the minority
organizations have been receiving. I don't feel that CU has provided equal
access to students instate or elsewhere. And in 1998 that is a pity!

S
QID 063 : Hispanic
This campus is very segregated. The racial/ethnic groups stick together
and do not interact with others.

S
QID 071 : Hispanic
Bringing in more money to CU will always conflict with creating diversity.
CU needs to look 25 years ahead and start now with fostering the talents and
ideas of the racial/ethnic population in Colorado - then we will have a diverse
state and an even wealther campus, in 25 years!

S
QID 018 : Native American
Everyone at CU should respect each other and meet at a common ground to
make the campus a better place. Some students are valued more than others in
classes and that is not right.

S
QID 041 : Native American
I do not like how hate mail has been sent to the BSA club.

S
QID 064 : Native American
Native Americans need more support both with counseling and in having
representatives in administration. I would love to see more scholarships for
minority students offered by CU, not private institutions.

S
QID 253 : Native American
Its very awkward being the only Native American in most of my classes, even
the big ones. I feel like I'm denpended upon too much to represent the N.
American viewpoint for all N. Americans in class discussions. The only
solution is to recruit more N. Americans.

S
QID 107 : White
Find a lot of stereotypes and assumptions about certain races on campus.
