2006 CU-Boulder Campus Climate Survey

Access to Long Open-Ended Responses

The Excel file of students' responses to the four long open-ended items (listed below) is password-protected. Students' responses are presented verbatim. The Excel file includes the following demographic information-- sample group, race/ethnicity, grad/undergad, college/division, and gender. To protect the anonymity of respondents in those instances in which only a few students are present in a subgroup (e.g., Native American students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication), we have combined the separate racial/ethnic subgroups into two groups: 1) U.S. minority racial/ethnic groups (Asian American, African American, Hispanic, and Native American), and 2) U.S. whites, international students, and U.S. students of unknown race/ethnicity.

Long open-ended items:
  • "In your opinion, how high of a priority should diversity be for the university? (Not at all, Low priority, Somewhat, High priority, Highest priority). Please tell us why you say the above."
  • "Think of a situation or experience on campus or in the larger Boulder community this or last semester that made you uncomfortable. Please describe the situation and what made you feel uncomfortable."
  • "Think of a situation or experience on campus this or last semester when someone helped to develop understanding between people of different backgrounds, lifestyles, cultures, etc. Please describe the situation or experience and how it made you feel."
  • "Think of a situation or experience on campus or in the larger Boulder community this or last semester where someone made discriminatory remarks or performed discriminatory actions toward another person. Please describe the situation or experience and how it made you feel."

These comments are intended to be used in improving or evaluating University units or programs, or in understanding and describing the University situation. They have not been edited in any way, and are presented verbatim. To obtain access to these comments, please complete a nondisclosure agreement.

Once you obtain access to the Excel file, it is suggested that you download it to your computer. There are data filters on the file that will let you view the comments by the various demographic subgroups. You can also search for specific words within the file (e.g., "professor," "faculty," "degree," etc.). For further instructions on content and usage, see the information in the Excel's "Info" tab.
