CU-Boulder Alumni Survey, 2007
Winners of the 2007 Alumni Survey Awards
Two students who completed the CU-Boulder Alumni Survey were
randomly selected to receive $1000 cash awards for completing the survey. Four
additional students were randomly selected to receive $500 cash awards.
The six lucky winners of each of these awards are listed below, along with information
on their degree level and program.
The two $1000 award winners:
- Katherine Sauer, Master's in Journalism; PhD. in Economics
- Yu Long, Master's in Telecommunications
The four $500 award winners:
- Jarrod Seaton, Bachelor's in Mathematics
- Samantha Minnis, Bachelor's in International Affairs
- Jamie Johnson, Bachelor's in Mathematics
- Robert Beetem, Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering
We asked all of the cash award winners for permission to post any additional
information they would like to tell us about themselves and their plans for the
cash awards they received. Two of the four $500 winners responded with the following:
Jarrod Seaton:
"Microsoft is the most intimidating company I’ve interviewed with. To get this
position I was flown into Redmond and interviewed by 6 people. Most of them
asked complex technical questions that tested my knowledge and experience. And,
I’m very happy to say, almost every technical question they asked was easily
answered as it was directly covered by classes I took at CU.
I’m not being generous in that comment either, as some of the questions were
phrased almost verbatim from the ones assigned in my C++ classes.
I’ll be using the money to visit my friends and family in Colorado this
winter."
Samantha Minnis:
"The cash award came
at the most opportune time! After paying medical bill after medical bill
for chemo to treat my recently diagnosed lymphoma, the cash award was
something that I chose to use for FUN! I used it as part of a downpayment
on a new car since my old one just died! I was thrilled to have the extra
money! My experience at CU was one that I'll never be able to re-create. I
am using my degree in International Affairs in a 'round-about' way. I teach
the first grade and with my foreign language experience from CU, I have all
of the ELA students pushed into my classroom so that I'm able to communicate
with them and the parents. My foundation I built at CU has been most
beneficial in my work! Thank you so much for the award and, like I said earlier,
it came at a perfect time!"
