National Survey of Student Engagement 2006

Recipients of the $1,000 Awards

Five CU-Boulder students were randomly chosen as the lucky recipients of the $1,000 cash awards for their participation in the 2006 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). Two were freshman and three were seniors. The names and major programs of the award recipients are listed below. Three of them provided further information on their current status, their plans for the summer, and plans for the $1,000 award.

Student Name Class Level Major Program College Division
Allison Ishkanian Freshman OPEN OPTION Arts & Sciences
Chase Thompson Senior INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS Arts & Sciences Social Science
Christina Elmblad Senior BROADCAST NEWS Journalism
Ruben Lemmens Freshman BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES-MCD Arts & Sciences Natural Science
Allison Bagin Senior ANTHROPOLOGY Arts & Sciences Social Science

Allison Ishkanian is currently a freshman in the school of Arts and Sciences at CU, but plans to transfer to the Business school in the Spring. She is originally from Las Vegas and is thoroughly enjoying Boulder. Her plans for the summer are to stay in Colorado where she will be attending summer sessions. Allison also hopes to relax by taking some vacations with her family and friends. With the $1,000 prize received, Allison plans to help pay for summer school and fund her traveling expenses.

Alli (Allison) Bagin is a senior, graduating in a two weeks, with a degree in Anthropology. Shortly after graduation she's going to Europe for a month to travel with one of her very good friends. They're hoping to visit France, Italy, Spain, Holland, and Switzerland. She's sure that's where most, if not all, of the money will be spent. Otherwise, it might go towards funding more classes so she can apply to nutrition school.

Ruben Lemmens just finished his freshman year in the College of Arts and Sciences and is majoring in MCDB. This summer he's going to Maui to visit some friends, and Holland to visit his family. Chances are, most of the money will be spent there. If there is money left over, he'll probably use it to buy furniture for the house he's moving into next semester.
