National Survey of Student Engagement: CU-Boulder 2000

Relationship between size of major and questionnaire responses

Analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between size of the major (total number of majors enrolled in spring 2000) and seniors' survey responses. While the relationships were generally small, a few significant results emerged. Size of the major is negatively related to:

  • ratings of advising, and in particular, advisor accuracy
  • relationship with administration (but not with faculty)
  • perceived support for academic and personal success
  • availability of general education courses (but not courses in the major)
  • discussion of ideas with faculty
  • extent to which UCB helps enhance self-understanding and honesty
