The University of Colorado Board of Regents will review the CU-Boulder QIS in August 1998 All governing boards will submit QIS material to CCHE by September 15 1998. CCHE will report to the General Assembly and Joint Education committees December 1 1998. By January 30 1999, according to CCHE plans, "CCHE and governing boards report to the General Assembly their plans for action in response to the QIS data." The legislation that established the quality indicator system enables and directs CCHE to allocate funds based on institutional performance as measured by the QIS. If, when, and how this will be done is not yet clear. Quantitative measures reported in the QIS will eventually be compared to "benchmarks" -- that is, to prior performance at the same institution, performance at other institutions, an absolute goal, etc. Institutions were not asked to set or compare to benchmarks in the 1998 submission, and we have not done so. We at CU-Boulder hope that our QIS submission is useful to the campus community, CCHE, the legislature, and the public as a source of information about the campus and our many programs and accomplishments.
