1/24/07 - NRC: Collecting subfields and placements

We are sending data to NRC to pre-populate the web questionnaires faculty will see. Data from the faculty questionnaires will be used by NRC to characterize programs.

We offer programs the opportunity to provide two pieces of information for faculty questionnaires – research subfields (e.g., social psychology) and placement or current employment of degree recipients (e.g., Asst Prof, Dept of Psychology, U of Chicago). We know many programs hold such information centrally.

By providing us with information to pre-populate the faculty questionnaires you can

• save your faculty time
• ensure more complete and consistent responses.

What to do – deadline for return Tues 1/30:

1. Go to the For Programs page, http://www.colorado.edu/pba/nrc/forprograms.htm.
2. On that page read about subfields and placements in “What’s Coming.” They are the first two items listed.
3. Go to the private site. There’s a link to it on the “For Programs” page.
4. Once on the private site, you’ll see one area for research subfields Excels, and one for student placement Excels.
5. Get both Excels for your program. Download to the machine of the person who’ll be doing the entry. Please do not change the filename! Read the instructions in the intro tab, and look over your lists.
6. Decide if you’re going to provide research specialties (subfields) for some/all listed faculty. Ditto for student placement/employment info.
7. If you are: Good! Enter, save the file, then send by 1/30 by email to NRC_UCB@colorado.edu.
8. If you’re not, that’s OK. Your faculty can enter subfields, and whatever student employment info they have. But do send email to NRC_UCB@colorado.edu letting us know.

Of course, you can enter subfields and not placements, or vice versa, and you can send them back separately.
