CU-Boulder Faculty Salaries Information on Composite Salary Figures

Composite Salary

Background for CU-Boulder:

  • For AY 2008-09 salary comparisons the integrated physiology department suggested via the A&S deans that PBA create a composite AAU comparison salary for the integrated physiology department. PBA will provide composite salary data for the integrated physiology department for AY 2007-08 on a trial basis with a final decision on relevance and usefulness of composite data being made by January 1, 2010.
  • To determine which disciplines should contribute to integrated physiology composite salary figures, CU-Boulder tenured and tenure track (TTT) integrated physiology department faculty were assigned (by the department and A&S deans) to one of four disciplines, integrated physiology (here a discipline not a department), kinesiology, environmental and ecological biology, or neurosciece. Discipline percent of total CU-Boulder TTT integrated physiology department faculty were calculated and used to calculate peer composite salary figures.
    • Weights used: 35% Integrated Physiology (discipline, defined as CIP code 2609), 30% Neuroscience (CIP 312401), 17.5% Kinesiology (CIP 3105), and 17.5% Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (CIP 2601, 2603, 260617, 2607, 261301, 261303, 261305, 261306, and 261399)
  • Only three institutions submitted neuroscience-discipline faculty salaries in non-medical schools/colleges: Pittsburgh, Indiana, and Michigan State. All neuroscience data come from those three institutions.
  • Composite AAU comparison salary figures for the CU-Boulder integrated physiology department are labeled as "IPHY composite" in displays B, C, & D. These displays have no entries for neuroscience or kinesiology because those are not separate Boulder departments. In display D (over time) we show IPHY-Composite only for 2008-09. For the prior two years we show simply "IPHY," which compares the UCB IPHY department to AAU integrated physiology discipline, as was done in past years.
  • Displays E & F show salary distributions and FTE counts for other AAU schools. In these, data labeled "Integrat Phys" contain AAU peer data for departments labeled (in schools' submissions, with a CIP code) as integrated physiology discipline. Data labeled "Ecol & Ev Bio" are from AAU departments labeled (in schools' submissions, with a CIP code) as ecology and evolutionary biology discipline. These data were used in calculating the IPHY-composite averages and in calculating averages for the UCB EBIO department. Finally, rows labeled KINESIOLOGY and NEUROSCIENCE reflect AAU peer submissions for those disciplines. These data were use only in calculating the UCB IPHY-composite averages in displays B, C, and D.
