Changed Habits in Transportation

Have you wanted to cancel your parking permit, but felt unsure about the logistics of riding the bus from your home? Do you want to do something to offset the carbon emissions of your daily commute? Keep reading!

Tips to help change your habits in transportation:

Carpool

Find a carpool or create your own at www.carpoolplus.com. There is no obligation once you sign up, and your home information is never shared.

Change your vehicle use patterns

Making a few small changes in your driving habits can save you money, reduce your stress and help keep the air fresh.

  • Combine trips to reduce your driving.
  • Walk, bike or bus to lunch. The average American only walks 400 yards a day. Walking to lunch will help keep you and your wallet healthy!
  • Pledge not to drive anywhere under ½ mile. Most campus destinations are within ½ mile of each other, and 67% of all driving trips are under a mile in length.
  • Try to fuel your vehicle during off peak hours, especially on haze or high ozone days. The fumes from the pump contribute to our brown cloud, and fueling when the haze is bad makes ozone pollution worse.
  • Don’t top off your tank and try not to spill. Gasoline fumes from overfilled tanks make ozone pollution worse.

CHIP (Changed Habits In Parking) Permits

A discounted parking option is available to Faculty/Staff who have held a parking permit for over a year, and would like to give it up in favor of using their Eco Pass. The CHIP parking permit is intended to provide an easy to use discounted option when driving is required. If you need to drive to campus two or more times per week, consider retaining your parking permit.

Guidelines for the purchase of CHIP permits

  1. The purchaser must be eligible for the CU-Boulder faculty/staff Eco Pass program.
  2. The purchaser must have previously held a CU PTS permit for a lot that is managed by PTS for at least one year.
  3. Persons who canceled their permits after July 1, 1997 are eligible.
  4. Purchasers must cancel their regular faculty/staff permit or their buffalo permit.
  5. CHIP daily parking permits are sold at $4.25 each. For more information, please contact 303-492-7384.
