Who Can Apply
Undergraduate
students currently registered full-time in a degree seeking program at the University of Colorado at Boulder
with a minimum 2.0 GPA may apply for BURST funding. Applicants are not
expected to have prior experience in bioscience research. This is the
perfect opportunity for highly motivated students seeking their first
practical experience in a research laboratory setting. Applicants must
not have received a BURST (formerly known as URAP) or standard UROP/SURF grant before. Preference for awards is given to sophomores and juniors. Students with or without
work-study are eligible for this program. When applying for summer, students must have been registered during the previous fall. We strongly encourage women
and ethnic minority students to apply.
You may apply for
BURST if...
- You are a current
CU-Boulder undergraduate student and will not graduate before or during the award
- You want to find
out what scientific research is like
- You have little
or no experience in a research lab
- You have not had
a BURST or UROP grant before
- You want to work
either for the entire academic year (October-May) or for the summer
(end of May - beginning of August)
The University of Colorado at Boulder sponsors several research programs. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides opportunities for both entry level and advanced students. The NIH/HHMI Scholars program provides opportunities for students underrepresented in the sciences. If you need assistance applying for BURST or determining which program is most appropriate for you, please contact the Biological Sciences Initiative office at BSI@colorado.edu.
