Infectious DiseaseRepresentational
Difference Analysis This
activity leads students through the analysis of DNA sequence data and
comparison of the sequence online with known sequences in the NCBI database
to disciver the identity of an unknown pathogen
Tracking the source of disease: Koch's postulates, causality, and contemporary
epidemiology
This activity leads students through the thought process of determining
whether or not a pathogen is the cause of disease. It discusses Koch's
postulates and traditional epidemiological techniques. Independent
Investigations in Infectious Disease - Students ask and answer
their own questions in infectious diseases. The scientific method is outlined
step by step for use with this activity. Adherence Part
I - In this activity, students learn to use a simulated agglutination
reaction to test the adherence of different pathogens to host cells. Adherence Part
II - In this activity, students use the scientific method and the
simulated agglutination reaction they learned in Part I to explore current
questions in the adherence of 3 different pathogens to host tissues.
