CU Boulder - CampusThere are still 18 days left until the first day of classes, but let’s brush up on our CU Boulder history:

  • Koenig Alumni Center was the home of CU Presidents from 1884 until 1963. A fence kept out the cattle from the pasture across the street.
  • Macky Auditorium is one-of-a-kind as it incorporates five different structures in its design; the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence, Italy), King’s Chapel (Cambridge, England), the Magdalen Tower (Oxford, England), the Princeton University campus and a church on lower Broadway in New York City.
  • The Yellow Jackets, Frontiersmen, and the Silver and Gold were nicknames used before CU Boulder became the Buffaloes in 1934.
  • Ralphie I first appeared as the mascot in 1966. She got her name from the sound she made when she ran.
  • The Colorado Daily student newspaper started as the Silver & Gold with a first run of 800 copies on September 13, 1892.
  • Trains stopped daily at the CU train station until the tracks were removed in 1932.
