Gmail - Configure Windows 8 Mail

This tutorial demonstrates how to configure Windows 8 Mail for CU-Boulder's Gmail.

This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):

You may need to enable IMAP for your account prior to configuration of your email client ( To do this: 

  1. From the Gmail web client, click Settings from the cog menu.
  2. In the POP/IMAP Download tab, click Enable IMAP.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Step 1

From the Metro, select Mail

Step 2

From the right side menu, select Settings and then Accounts

Step 3

Select Add an Account

Step 4

Select Other Account

Step 5

First in the E-mail address field enter your email. Second enter your in the Username field.  Finally in the Password field enter your Identikey Password.

Step 6

In the Incoming (IMAP) email server field type and in the Outgoing (SMTP) email server field type

*Note: It is best to let Windows Mail automatically fill in the Port field during configuration, as the number can range depending on your connection. If you run into any issues, try entering numbers, 465, 587, or 25 in the Port field.

Step 7

Uncheck the Use the same username and password to send and recieve email box.

Step 8

Enter the following for the Username fields:

  • Username: CULoginName
  • Password: IdentiKey password

*Note: Be sure that the username does not have included or you mail will not be able to send.

Step 9

Click Connect.
